United States | Spotlight on Rove
A roundup of Rove stories:
Rove under fire, WH quiet:
Nearly two years after stating that any administration official found to have been involved in leaking the name of an undercover CIA officer would be fired, and assuring that Karl Rove and other senior aides to President Bush had nothing to do with the disclosure, the White House refused on Monday to answer any questions about new evidence of Rove's role in the matter.
Dems urge Rove to clear air on leak:
Democrats yesterday pressed White House aide Karl Rove to "clear the air" about his role in the leak of a covert CIA operative's identity to the news media after disclosures that he was a Time reporter's source on that story.
The heat on Rove rose after the White House yesterday rebuffed reporters' questions about his role, citing the special prosecutor's probe - even though two years ago a Bush spokesman called suggestions Rove was involved "ridiculous" and said anyone who was would be fired.
"The prosecutors overseeing the investigation had expressed a preference to us that one way to help the investigation is not to be commenting on it from this podium," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said yesterday.

The revenge outing of Mr. Wilson's wife is an act of high treason. According to Mr. Novak's original Chicago Tribune article naming the agency WMD operative, the information came from an official in the Bush administration. Whom ever is responsible for this grievous act of treachery must be charged with treason and other crimes relating to endangering US security interests and punished to the full extent of the law.
If after an investigation, (and not another whitewash with hand picked Bush government cronies doing everything in thier power to cloak or avoid the truth and the facts) - Karl Rove or anyone else in the Bush government is linked to this nefarious act of treachery, - he, or they should be fired and then charged with treason.

I just wanted to say there are too many accusations of lying floating around. Anyone trying to get a complete understanding of the situation would be ill-served to be reading only one side of the story. All of those links above provide the same side, so here is a link which is presenting the other side in as reasonable a manner as can be expected: http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/
Can anyone point to a good listing of facts regarding this case (preferably one that uses the word "said" in preference to "lied")? Or should we try to collect them here?

Hrmmm. Shows what I know. Okay, the Billmon link is not on the same side as the others. At least now it's more even

Does anyone in their right mind actually believe "The Architect" would be sloppy enough to commit the crime? The guy is a friggin genius. He may have influenced the reporters direction of investigation, but he didn't give them any names.
What I find so amusing about this event (besides the fact that democrats and anarchists are literally crapping themselves like the little whiney babies they are) is that these sorry, pieces of trash, liberal reporters nearly/are going to jail defending "The Architect" of the revival of the RNC!
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The revenge outing of Mr. Wilson's wife is an act of high treason.
Except that's not what happened.
As the facts have been coming out it has become clear that:
a) There was no statutory violation of the law, and;
b) There was no violation of a "Moral Law"
I'd explain more, but you're not listening anyway, so there's no point.

James, there are three places which investigated Wilson's mission and the circumstances around them, most notably the July 9thm 2003 Senate Intelligence Committee Findings which can be found here. The other two are the 9/11 commision report and the Lord Butler report.
(My apologies. On Coldfury.com two days ago, I had a link to the msnbc transcript of that committee report. Strangely, however, there is no longer access to that article, even through google. I have however, posted the more salient points here.)
Conclusion 12. Until October 2002 when the Intelligence Community obtained the forged foreign language documents2 on the Iraq-Niger uranium deal, it was reasonable for analysts to assess that Iraq may have been seeking uranium from Africa based on Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reporting and other available intelligence. 2 (BLACKED OUT) In March 2003, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Senator Rockefeller, requested that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigate the source of the documents, BLACKED OUT the motivation of those responsible for the forgeries, and the extent to which the forgeries were part of a disinformation campaign. Because of the FBI’s current investigation into this matter, the Committee did not examine these issues.
(U) Conclusion 13. The report on the former ambassador’s trip to Niger, disseminated in March 2002, did not change any analysts’ assessments of the Iraq-Niger uranium deal. For most analysts, the information in the report lent more credibility to the original Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports on the uranium deal, but State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) analysts believed that the report supported their assessment that Niger was unlikely to be willing or able to sell uranium to Iraq.
This is not what Joe Wilson claimed.
(U) Conclusion 14. The Central Intelligence Agency should have told the Vice President and other senior policymakers that it had sent someone to Niger to look into the alleged Iraq-Niger uranium deal and should have briefed the Vice President on the former ambassador’s findings.
Joe Wilson claimed the reverse of this. This is important because Wilson was claiming that the order to go to Niger came from Cheney's office.
(U) Conclusion 21. When coordinating the State of the Union, no Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analysts or officials told the National Security Council (NSC) to remove the “16 words” or that there were concerns about the credibility of the Iraq-Niger uranium reporting. A CIA official’s original testimony to the Committee that he told an NSC official to remove the words “Niger” and “500 tons” from the speech, is incorrect.
Wilson repeatedly stated that Bush had been instructed by CIA offoicals to remove those words. The Senate concluded otherwise.
(U) Problems with the Intelligence Community’s HUMINT efforts were also evident in the Intelligence Community’s handling of Iraq’s alleged efforts to acquire uranium from Niger. The Committee does not fault the CIA for exploiting the access enjoyed by the spouse of a CIA employee traveling to Niger. The Committee believes, however, that it is unfortunate, considering the significant resources available to the CIA, that this was the only option available. Given the nature of rapidly evolving global threats such as terrorism and the proliferation of weapons and weapons technology, the Intelligence Community must develop means to quickly respond to fleeting collection opportunities outside the Community’s established operating areas. The Committee also found other problems with the Intelligence Community’s follow-up on the Iraq-Niger uranium issue, including a half-hearted investigation of the reported storage of uranium in a warehouse in Benin, and a failure, to this day, to call a telephone number, provided by the Navy, of an individual who claimed to have information about Iraq’s alleged efforts to acquire uranium from Niger.
A lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing. It should be noted that Rove also gave Judith Miller the same waiver from source exception that he gave Cooper, yet she is rotting in jail. Why? To protect Rove? I don't think so.

Hilarious jackhammer. The -"Rove is a genius and would never be so "sloppy" defense", which ranks up there with the socalled "flyonthewall" strategy, parable, and work of phantasmagoria.
The real issue involves a rightwingideologue hack, sloganeer, and neocrusader Bush government apologist and propagandist (Novak) revenge outing an agency WMD operative (whose husband publically debunked a neocrusader Bush government fiction, deception, and work of disinformation in the Niger claim).
You and avet and all the trubelievers cannot defend, excuse, or ignore the grim fact that Mr. Wilson's assertions (which forced recantations from the neocrusaders in the Bush government) were correct and true, - and the 16 words Bush pimped before the UN to terrorize the American people into supporting the costly, bloody, wayward misadventure in Iraq were FALSE!!
One or another of the neocrusader war profiteers in the Bush government revenge outed Plame to discret and otherwise injure Mr. Wilson for stating the truth and debunking a Bush government lie relating to the Niger claim and the entire WMD disinformation campaign. Let there be no mistaking this act of treachery for any question of mere ethics. This

Sorry for the double post. But to continue on the comment above, the revenge outing of Plame is a grievous treachery and an act of treason.
The Bush government is accountable!!!

Sorry Tony, but Rove is off the hook.
But keep pushing...
Enough of you wingnuts keep harping on this imaginary revenge outing and you might annoy enough people that Kerry finds himself arrested for outing Fulton Armstrong.
So by all means... keep it up.

We intend to avet, - until the perpetrator of this treason is brought to justice.
And your gospel according to Fox partisan opinion is irrelevant and moot.
Again – apologists, propagandists, disinformation mongers, and sloganeers for the neocruader Bush government cannot defend, excuse, or ignore the glaring fact that someone in the WH revenge outed Joseph Wilson’s wife with malicious intent to punish Mr. Wilson for daring to debunk the OSP/Chalabi concocted deception - (one of a festering list of deceptions in the Bush governments' information warfare campaign) - FALSELY attempting to justify the neocrusader Bush governments obscene profiteering and the costly, bloody, noendinsight, wayward misadventure in Iraq.
My belief is that the OSP/Amed Chalabi cabal originally leaked the agency WMD covert ops actual name, and Mr. Rove then exploited that bit of dangerous information in a nefarious attempt to discredit and otherwise demonize Mr. Wilson.
Again – Wilson publicly debunked the fictitious Niger claim, one of many festering deceptions pimped by the neocrusaders in the Bush government to terrorize the American people (through information warfare and information domination operations) into supporting the Bush governments slaughter, profiteering, and plunder in Iraq. The Niger claim was FALSE, based on obvious forgeries which Wilson proved and thoroughly debunked. The neocrusader Bush government was forced to publically recant the claim. You cannot pretend otherwise, or rewrite history to suit you partisan wishes truebelievers.
According to the rightwingideologue hack Novak, -the office of the Executive - the socalled commander and chief - the office of the president provided the agency WMD covert operative name and link to discredit or otherwise push back the embarrassing Wilson debunking in the NYT. The office of the Executive is accountable for this act of treachery and treason.
You can dance around the facts and make a million false and unsubstantiated claims AVet. But you cannot defend the indefensible, excuse the inexcusable, or ignore the glaring facts of this sordid act of treachery and treason.
The neocrusader Bush government ended the career and all the contacts of the Joseph Wilson’s wife who was a covert WMD proliferation expert.
Don’t we need those experts and contacts? Why would the neocrusader Bush government resort to this kind of nefarious activity?
Something is rotten in the land of Oz. The wizard is a fraud hiding behind a screen, and the neocrusader Bush government is accountable for maliciously revenge outing an agency WMD operative and injuring America WMD proliferation interests. The people demand an investigation.
This is an act of treachery and treason in the office of the executive and the people demand a truly independent investigation.
The people demand accountability from the neocrusader Bush government.

. But you cannot defend the indefensible, excuse the inexcusable, or ignore the glaring facts of this sordid act of treachery and treason.
LOL....unlike Tony, of course, who can. I posted how a bipartisan Senate Committee refuted many of the assertions of Joe Wilson; assertions which would have provided the motivation for a "revenge" outing of his non-undercover CIA analyst wife.
But of course, Tony can't be bothered to actually read or understand any of this, and if cornered, Tony will neither be able to provide evidence for his belief in "The Chalabi Connection" or else he will discount with ever and infinitely increasing thresholds for accuracy anything which might threaten his rhetoric with accusations of "Its biased", "Its slime", "Its false" "neocrusaders" etc and simply repeat himself, hoping everyone who hears him is too stupid to know the difference.
You guys have lost this one, and the deeper and longer you push it, the more stupid you are going to end up looking in the end. So, by all means, continue. "He who argues with a fool.....", after all.

Tony! What did we tell you about the Brown Acid!!
Posted by: A Vet at July 17, 2005 06:28 PM
I'll speak for myself brothers, and you speak for yourselves, and lord have mercy on your souls. First, I do not recall any discussion of Brown acid, but appreciate the warning.
Secondly; your partisan words are hollow and meaningless brothers. You keep wanting to imagine Iraq posed some imintent threat, and continue regurgitating the same pathetic unvetted, uncorroborated, dodgely and thoroughly debunked OSP/Chalabi concocted fictions and myths to justify the nightmare – I mean slaughter and plunder – I mean war and nationbuilding misadventure in Iraq.
The intelligence (or lack thereof) is not the issue here. We can attempt to debate the intelligence, - and might I warn you that the facts are on my side in that IRAQ HAD NO WMD, NO INVOLVMENT WITH 9/11, NO OPERATIONAL LINKS TO AL QUAIDA, and POSED NO IMMINENT THREAT TO AMERICA - on another day, - but here - we are dealing with the WH leaking an agency WMD covert operative to the rightwingideolgue hack and Bush government apologist Novak, who published an article intended to discredit Joseph Wilson for debunking the FALSE Niger claim.
It’s not the claim that matters here, or Joe Wilson's credibility or Cooper, or Miller - but the revenge outing of Mr. Wilson’s wife by WH and Novak.
True believers cannot dance around this fact. For example Cooper did not out Joseph Wi\lsons’ wife – Novak did. Why Novak is recused from this crime is an an enigma wrapped in a mystery cloaked in a web of lies.
Again – the intelligence claim is irrelevant here, because the crime involves someone in the WH revenge outing an agency WMD covert operative with malicious intent to discredit Joseph Wilson’s debunking of the Niger claim.
Slime me to your hard dark hearts content, but you cannot run and/or hide from the fact that someone in the WH revenge outed an agency WMD covert operative.
The revenge outing is an act of treachery and treason and the neocrusader Bush government is accountable.
