France | French Voters Reject First EU Charter/ Links, updates
In a stunning rejection of the European Union's latest ambitious move to unite its 25 nations, French voters shot down the bloc's first constitution, dealing a potentially fatal blow to the charter and humiliating President Jacques Chirac. More: France and Europe reel from loud French 'No' Blogs writing about this story: No Parasan (in English and French) Posted by Michele at May 30, 2005 07:22 AM | TrackBack Comments
The people have spoken. The bastards. Posted by: Achillea Well, this is a bad news for the ones who stand for a federal Europe, as I do. But it is not a disaster. Not all can go always well. In such a complex process as the one which goes towards an European integration, drawbacks and problems must be expected. The French people didn’t choose the good path, in my humble opinion. They punished Jacques Chirac by using the EU constitution referendum as a main battle weapon, being the rest of the EU countries the “collateral casualties”. But this is the voice of the French people, and I respect it. It is time to get up, repair the damages and still working for the European Union, the inevitable path, the new Roman Empire. Posted by: VinoTinto the new Roman Empire.
Posted by: johnnymozart I've heard the 478 page EU constitution is really a masterpiece - with an entire article devoted to some unknown ethnic minority's right to the "husbandry of reindeer." Now that is an example of inspiration for the rest of the world.
Posted by: jackhammer I said the new Roman Empire, not “the old Roman Empire coming back”. I was not talking about putting again gladiators fighting on the sand.
Posted by: VinoTinto Funny thing about "new" empires; they tend to be a lot like the "old" empires. Posted by: johnnymozart Sure johnny, look the USA. Posted by: VinoTinto I wonder how soon you'll be putting 666 on your forehead. Remember the Anti-Christ arises out of the REVIVED Roman Empire. He's alive and well and waiting to take his position. Which European politician could it be? I tend to say Chirac, but he's too old. Time for him to retire. Posted by: Bonniea Lol. Uh huh, whatever, Generalissimo. Don't get your panties in a bunch. I would remind you that YOU were the one who compared your own continent to the Roman Empire, not me. (rolls eyes) Posted by: johnnymozart Bonniea, you should read a little bit more about the Roman Empire, and a little bit less about Nostradamus. And here the Voodoo is not so popular as there is. :D
Posted by: VinoTinto Actually Vino, it's from the Bible. I don't read Nostradamus. And I was being silly, but there is a lot of truth in what I said. I take it you're a foreigner by the way you word your english. Italiano? Posted by: Bonniea ..you know o`Joc is really smarting over this one..could not have happen to a better guy...old Europe is fading away..now is the time for the new Europe to rise...freedom...so sweet it is............... Posted by: Rob_NC Sorry Bonniea, but actually I do not read the Bible. :D I am improving here my english, with all these Republican teachers. I am Español.
Posted by: VinoTinto ///Don’t worry, johnnywayne, I know what I am talking about, unlike you.///
Posted by: johnnymozart I do not understand you johnnywayne,
Posted by: VinoTinto Apparently in Spain, telling someone they don't know what they're talking about is not considered an insult. What a progressive culture you must have. Whatever, Vino. If you ever manage to get around that pesky "voting" thing and get your empire, then be sure and say hi to the Emperor for me. Feel free to have the last word. Sieg heil!
Posted by: johnnymozart No, in Spain to tell so somebody that he doesn’t know what is talking about is not an insult. We have different moral rules, as all we know.
Posted by: VinoTinto Listen up Tonto, the only salute any American (besides John Kerry) would give a "European Emperor" is the middle finger. Posted by: jackhammer Post a comment
