Michele, We're Proud of You!
One of the first blogs that I ever read when I discovered blogging was Michele's. For some reason, what she wrote resonated with me. When she was pissed about something, it was something that pissed me off. When she was happy, the same. I admire her strength and courage and ability to write just what she means. And I've always had a weakness for Italian American women since I first discovered them in college. When the Iraq war began, she was one of the founders of the outstanding group blog The Command Post. This blog endeavored to provide news coverage of the war 24/7, without the editorial spin to the right or left, and it has succeeded. So much so, that it is becoming somewhat of a phenom with the print and electronic media. Rumor is that CNN staffers monitored it regularily. Now we get the chance to find out. Michele is set to be interviewed on CNN. In her own words, telling it much better than I: This would be a good time to confess to you all that I actually look like a cross between Jabba the Hut and that big heap of garbage on Fraggle Rock. Do not be alarmed. I've never been on tv before, except for that one time back in high school when Art Linkletter did this special on teen sex and I stood up (as part of the live studio audience) and told everyone in America who was watching that my parents never taught me about sex and I learned it all on the streets. Well, I freak out when I'm nervous. I say weird things. I'm liable to start blurting out phrases like "Eason Jordan is Saddam's whore!" or "Bring me the head of Larry King!" From the sound of the phone call I got today, they want to play up that "Oh, look at the cute little housewife playing with the war blog" angle. I should inform them that I am neither cute nor a housewife, and I'd rather not go into June Cleaver territory with them, lest people get the wrong idea about me. Which is why I am going to wear a black leather outfit and carry a riding whip and tell everyone that Alan is my secret lover who I keep locked in a closet when he isn't tending to CP duties. And I will not let on that Alan is really the brains and the brawn behind Command Post. I think they'd rather not see him in a June Cleaver outfit, anyhow.I will admit to a yearning to see her in leather, and an outright desire to see her show up at CNN in leather. It's the male pig anarchist in me, I suppose. ........ Ooops, sorry. Drifted off into fantasy land there for a bit. Anyhoooo, tune in, turn on, drop out... whatever it takes to see Michele take CNN by storm on Monday. Congrats, Michele, well-deserved recognition! I found Michele when I went searching for women bloggers that were my own age (never mind). Any superlative that I could think of for her writing, not to mention her intelligence, just doesn't seem adequate. Let's just say I've got a new role-model. Posted by: jl at April 16, 2003 10:40 AMMichelle, Thank you for bringing your blog to all of us. And I don't get cable, darn it! Maybe they'll stream it?
