US Crimes Against History
Boston Globe Editorials /Crimes against history Sadly, the preventable human suffering that US forces did not prevent in the immediate postwar period will also long be remembered by Iraqis as a defining moment. Liberators do not allow babies to die and they do not stand by for two days while thieves carry away the heritage of humanity. As you can see by the above editorial, the Boston Globe continues to find new ways to make the US responsible for all the ills of Iraq. It should not be surprising to anyone that the Globe spends more time pointing out the fabricated US crimes against history than it does bringing to light the well-documented crimes of Saddam Hussein. Its by no means certain that the Museum was looted by Iraqi citizens in the first place. The Museum was (a) closed to the public for years and (b) controlled by a kleptocratic regime. Hmmm, think there was much left in the place when the Americans rolled into town? I don't. Most of the valuables have probably been auctioned off to Saudi princelings, with the proceeds resting comfortably in Hussein's bank accounts. Posted by: T. Hartin at April 15, 2003 10:53 AMApparently the Boston Globe editorial board forgot that Iraqi society isn't as sophisticated as ours (*cough* Rodney King riots *cough*). We don't stoop (*cough* New York blackout 1977 *cough*) to such ignorant behavior, for it would prove (*cough* Hurricane Andrew, 1992 *cough*) that any such incidents (*cough* any sports championship in the last 5 years *cough*) should have been prevented too. Posted by: Jeff Brokaw at April 15, 2003 11:10 AMJust another Jesuit Vatican spin from Hell Posted by: Phil at April 15, 2003 11:31 AMYou know what's ironic? When the Iraqis invaded Kuwait, there was a PR-firm-placed story about Iraqis stripping Kuwaiti hospitals of incubators. Because that story was planted (AFAIK), the Left has just dismissed the stories that DID happen, including the torture and disappearance of Kuwaitis, the looting of the country, etc. Now, we have a story about hospitals being looted in Iraq. Never mind that we have tried to limit looting at some of them. Never mind that this is in the aftermath of a war. Never mind that US soldiers had nothing to do w/ the looting, that it is being done by Iraqis. If it turns out that no babies were turned out of incubators this time around, will the Left answer to the misimpression of these stories? Or will this join the missing Kuwaitis (and Iraqis) in the land of the disappeared? Posted by: Dean at April 15, 2003 12:09 PMI am weary of this sort of thing from the press. Post a comment
