Lethal Weapon 5: Danny Glover's mouth

The body isn't even cold yet, and the worst barnacles Commiefornia has to offer have slouched themselves awake...

AP: Reactions to Death of Ronald Reagan

"We all know Reagan's legacy, from the Iran-Contra affair to the funding of the Nicaraguan military in which over 200,000 people died. The groundwork for the move steadily to the right happened with the Reagan administration. People want to elevate him to some mythic level; they have their own reason for doing that." — actor Danny Glover, at an anti-war rally in Los Angeles.

Quoting Ronald Reagan from 1947 at the HUAC:

CHAIRMAN: There is one thing that you said that interested me very much. That was the quotation from Jefferson. That is why this committee was created by the House of Representatives: to acquaint the American people with the facts. Once the American people are acquainted with the facts there is no question but what the American people will do the kind of job that they want done: that is, to make America just as pure as we can possibly make it. We want to thank you very much for coming here today. REAGAN: Sir, I detest, I abhor their philosophy, but I detest more than that their tactics, which are those of the fifth column, and are dishonest, but at the same time I never as a citizen want to see our country become urged, by either fear or resentment of this group, that we ever compromise with any of our democratic principles through that fear or resentment. I still think that democracy can do it.

Reagan exposed Paul Robeson privately. Danny Glover exposes himself publicly.

Please, get a grip!

"...the worst barnacles Commiefornia has to offer have slouched themselves awake..."

Reagan was a statesman, a man in high political office. Someone in this exposed position is bound to make mistakes, too. For us not to remember the mistakes (along with the good he did) would be to smear history, not honour Mr. Reagan.

"De mortuis nil nisi bene" always struck me as a particularly stupid saying -- of course we must see the good someone's done with the bad... and learn from both: How to do things, and how not to do things.

"Infallible Leaders" who never made a mistake only exist in North Korea.

We are much smarter than this, and can properly remember a great, an important statesman like Mr. Reagan. The good with the bad, and learn from both.

Could we bury him first? Do you really see Glover's attack appropriate? Wait a week.

jones: How can we bury Danny Glover? He's not dead yet.

How can we bury Danny Glover? He’s not dead yet.

Just his career.

"Ill speak out the most inhuman drivel about my fellow human beings, but ill only do while they are ABOVE the ground"
-Butchered quote from Andrew 'dice' Clay.

Ive only caught a few blips from Fox and CNN, it sure as hell doesnt look like anybody is overblowing this or treating it as some sort of national tragedy. And you can dissagree with someone all you want even when thier dead its ok to dissagree. But to defame somebody just planted......thats what you do to your sworn enemy, not a fellow countryman, no matter how much you dissagree with them.

The people who cry obsenities loudest in the next week (and there will be more, just wait) over Reagans grave, say more about themselves, than they do about the late president.

Dear Liberals, try cutting and pasting this if you have to: "I didnt agree with the way he ran the country or his policies, may he rest in peace".

Anything more than that and your just being an asshole.

What an ass.

I hated Danny Glover before. Now I wish to set him on fire.

As BB said, I think Glover buried himself.

I pity the man..

While it is sad to learn of someone's death, especially after fighting so bravely against a disease as Alzheimer’s, I don't think Danny Glover's comment should be criticized so quickly. I don't think he was trying to show insult or complete disrespect to Reagan. He was only stating a truthful fact, that Reagan was involved in atrocious human rights violations in Central and South America. His "Reaganomics" also causes a lot of economic hardship for a lot of Americans. While people may wish to remember him for the good reasons that they have, let's not give this former president some immortal, idolized status. He was human, and he did commit certain atrocities that ruined thousands of people's lives. As for Ronin's comment about Glover, please don't hate anyone...or ever wish to set fire or immense harm on another. Hate only fuels the violence and bigotry that this nation has always tried to eliminate in the world.

Pardon me David, but what the **** are you talking about?

What Glover was doing was working up the crowd at an ANSWER rally. To chatacerize the limited quotes of his as anything but a smear against Reagan (I've been promised a transcript of the full, insane rant) is denial.

Seek help for your denial, please.

I Love Danny Glover. His comments were perfect in describing the way republicans glorify that old bastard. He was a terrible president that was manipulated by that old bag on Nancy. I believe Regan was about 150 when he was president and could of not remembered anything thing that he did as president.

As long as there are people who believe in wild claims like Reagan being 150, Glover will have a fertile field of ignorance and idiocy in which to plant his hateful seeds, watered by the foam dripping from the jaws of A.N.S.W.E.R.

Regan is Eating Hamburgers with the Devil Now. Please let him Rot in Hell!!!

Posted by: Danny Glover is My New Hero at June 7, 2004 04:49 PM

Grow up.

But keep up with your pleasant rhetoric. It will probably get your boy lots of votes. If fact, why don't you reserve some time on your open access station, and state the same kind of sentiments?

Have fun getting home after you're done, though.

Laurence,

Thank you for your comments, but it is not I who am in denial. I keep hearing all these messages from people saying Reagan stood for freedom, etc. ...values that are supposedly highly regarded in this nation. And yet someone like Danny Glover speaks his mind, and DOES speak the truth with Reagan and Iran Contra and the numerous lives lost in Central America, and he's blasted by the media and the citizenry of this country. I don't know if you have been to Central America, but I have and I have seen the consequences of America's policies there in the 1980's. Clearly, it is you on the right who have missed the point! YOU are in denial of the rights we have in this country to disagree and to speak the truth about someone and the atrocities committed under Reagan's administration. If the right REALLY believes in freedom, apple pie, etc., then you will accept the right of Glover and others to criticize the Reagan Admin. for what it was. Being Pro-American doesn't mean blindly following the views of the hippocritical right wing agenda in this nation!
