Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) is a RINO and a coward...

...based on my reading of his comments on Times Square.

("RINO" = Republican in Name Only).

Don't listen to Rep. Shays. Go have a happy New Year. Go to Times Square. Or Las Vegas. Or Washington, D.C.

If you see a terrorist, I for one am quite confident that you and your fellow freedom-loving revelers will take the appropriate steps.

An angry mob of drunk Americans - wearing funny hats and bearing-down on you with breath saturated from alcohol and buffalo-wings - is a terrifying thing to behold. Hmmm. Maybe after we all leave Denny's at 2:00 a.m., we should go camp out on Chris Shays' lawn.

Seriously. We are blessed with freedom. Go have fun at the big New Year's Eve bash of your choice. What does the annual celebration in Times Square represent if not another year of American freedom? Let's show our new, free, friends in Baghdad and Kabul how it's done...

Happy New Year from the City of New York!

I ran (jogged) with him once. He lives near me.

He is on the House Intelligence Committee as I recall. Happily he's fairly hawkish these days. Yes, he's sort of a Lieberman Republican.

Scarey part is one of my family members works in Times Square. And I suggested to him not to hang around long before Shays came on the scene.

Money quote. I love it!

I totally sympathize with the desire to "damn the torpedoes" and carry on as if nothing's going on. But the fact is that something IS going on. What good are alert levels if we are to carry on as before? Should the public alert system be scrapped?

Maybe Shays shouldn't have said what he said the way he said it, but to dismiss him out of hand doesn't seem reasonable, either.

Maybe most people don't want to avoid Times Square or the Super Bowl because doing so will mean that "they've already won," but we are in a state of war. Were the people in London cowards when they turned off their lights at night in 1940?

I'm not suggesting that those who go to Times Square tonight are irresponsible or reckless. Not at all. But I don't know that blasting someone who says they won't go is really fair.

And when Farragut said "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"? His first ship hit a torpedo and sank.

Happily, the ball dropped and the party went on. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I want to say something about New Years. To all the terrorists in the world, you are colosal failures and cowards. The American people basically dared you to come and get us. Three quarters of a million people in Times Square. Thats like going turkey shooting in the grocery store as far as high impact target go. But you couldnt set off so much as a bottle rocket. You are losing, in fact, you are beaten already, whether you know it or not. My whole country just gave you the finger yet again and said we wont live in fear, which is your only weapon to begin with. Sure, somewhere down the line you might blow up a bus or even get hold of another plane and do something else nasty with it. But there will still be revelers in Times Square that year, I promise you that. Because thats who we are.
