Iran to Shut Down University Campus
Iranian authorities have decided to shut down Tehran University's main campus from July 7-14 in a bid to prevent any gatherings there to commemorate major student riots in 1999, press reports said Monday.Posted by michele at July 2, 2003 11:30 AM Comments
The students are restless and ready to protest..I KNOW! LETS GIVE THEM MORE FREE TIME TO PROTEST WITH! class dissmissed. Now go home and think about what you did, and dont even consider using this week off from school to hold giant protest and riots! Methinks the mullahs shoulda worked on their own education. Posted by: Ronin at July 2, 2003 12:31 PMThis has to be one of the worst ideas in Islamofascist history. Talk about self-destructive behavior. Posted by: johnnymozart at July 2, 2003 01:51 PMGood strategy, alright. Seth - LOL - Do you hear me squeelin' like a pig in fresh slops at this news? NO? I'm takin' off both my sandals for this one, hittin' the hookak at the Internet café, and waitin' 'til my brothers gather for the hoot-in. Yuppers. Those Mullahs got it ALL together... Karoake Mood music at the café? 'Surfin' USA', with backup vocals by those shy Iranians ladies in the two-piece burqas. Yuppers... Posted by: Dave Dubé at July 2, 2003 03:28 PMRemember, the non-Mullah government claims to be a reform government. I wouldn't be surprised if reform-minded government officials are egging the Mullahs on to such inflammatory measures. Quietly, o f course. Posted by: TBox at July 2, 2003 05:53 PMI think you guys are coming from a US prospective where we have the freedom to protest where and when we want. In Iran they are just not used to pulling up in some place and protesting. You take away the logical place for the students to protest and they dont know what the hell to do. The school was a safe place where they knew they could get away with a protest. (Just like certain types of behavior are accepted in certain places here.) The government in Iran has nothing better to do then track those who go against it. By taking the school, the government is taking away the organization point, a somewhat sheltered place, and instilling fear. Posted by: John at July 2, 2003 06:29 PMJohn. Thanks. I don't suppose it's what I wanted to hear, but rather it is what it is. Never gave the 'right place-right time' thingy a moments notice. SO. Do you think this is goin' to fizzle, or are the intelligent Iranians going to find a way to make this happen, with or without a classroom? Posted by: Dave Dubé at July 2, 2003 06:37 PMSo we wait and see. Post a comment
