North Korea Confirms Bird Flu Outbreak

CNN reports North Korea acknowledges that it has an outbreak of avian flu:

“Hundreds of thousands” of chickens were burned before burial to prevent spread of the disease, which can spread to humans, the country’s official media outlet Korean Central News Agency said on Sunday.

However, KCNA said North Korea had no reports of human infection.

Bird Flu Jumps From Human To Human

Keep an eye on this. From the Guardian.

A teenage girl has become the 11th victim of bird flu to die in Vietnam inside a month while a Cambodian woman with symptoms of the disease was last night admitted to hospital in a critical condition. It has raised fears that bird flu may be starting to appear as a human pathogen and escalated concerns over the extent of the threat posed by the disease.
