Jeanne Leaves 600 Dead in Haiti [Updated]
Rescuers dug through mud and ruined homes for bodies Tuesday, expecting the death toll of more than 600 from Tropical Storm Jeanne to rise even further, with half the crowded northern city of Gonaives still under water from the weekend's devastating winds and rain.

Gonaives was hardest hit in the latest tragedy to beset Haiti in a year of revolts, military interventions and devastating floods. Bodies, including many children, were stacked at the city's main morgue, where weeping relatives searched for loved ones.

At least 500 people were killed in the city, according to Toussaint Kongo-Doudou, a spokesman for the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Haiti.

This is just awful.

There are stories that it may even be much worse than the 600 or so deaths widely reported... see here.

Well, since the maximum altitude of La Tortue island is something around 1500 feet, according to the maps, I think it's safe to say that the Atlantic Ocean sea level won't go that high (even if the north pole melt)... and that the island is pretty much in the same place.

In fact latest news confirm that nothing out of the ordinary during the storm did in fact happend to the island itself.
Anyway, it's a devastating tragedy and a great tragedy.

Another hurricane warning. Worst one yet!
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
The National weather service has issued a warning for yet another catastrophic hurricane following on the heels of Ivan and Jeanne. The path of this storm zigs and zags and is therefore highly unpredictable. Experts predict that this storm will cause the most damage to the U.S. that we have experienced in four years. They are naming this one Hurricane Kerry. Be advised, the only way for citizens to prtect themselves is by getting behind a Bush.
