"N Korea says it blew up mountain"
BBC: North Korea has given its first explanation for the huge blast last week which prompted speculation that it had carried out a nuclear test. The country's foreign minister, Paek Nam-sun, said the blast was in fact the deliberate demolition of a mountain as part of a huge, hydro-electric project...Posted by Lonewacko at September 13, 2004 02:04 AM | TrackBack Comments
In an interesting tangent, I have a "coffee table book" I received as a gift from the wife of a Finance Minister in Moscow with a photo of a perfectly round harbor that the USSR made using a nuke. Maybe the Norks used such a nice tool to merely clear a mountain inconveniently in the way for a hydro project, oh, and maybe make a few yield measurements too. Posted by: Max Darkside Any civil engineers out there that want to give an opinion on whether you'd ever want to demolish a mountain in a single blast as part of a hydro-electric project? Posted by: TL Maybe they used a nuclear bomb to save time in the hydroelectric project…I have heard that the North Koreans are quite brute.
