Paris bomb
Breaking news: Explosive device found buried under train tracks east of Paris. More information as it becomes available. BLOOMBERG: Bomb Found on French Rail Line Linking Paris, Basel, AFP Says An unexploded bomb with several detonators was found today in France on the rail line linking Paris and the Swiss city of Basel, Agence France-Presse cited police in the French capital as saying. The device was similar to one found previously that police linked to AZF, a group whose threats to bomb the French railways prompted a nationwide search of the network earlier this month, AFP cited police as saying. AZF had demanded for $4 million and 1 million euros ($1.22 million), AFP reported at the time.Posted by Laurence Simon at March 24, 2004 11:35 AM | TrackBack Comments

Posted by: Jeff at March 24, 2004 01:51 PM NYC, I hope that's a joke. Posted by: johnnymozart at March 24, 2004 02:01 PM Disarming this bomb was some major provocation. THink of how much time the terrorists took to plant the thing. All disarming it does is make them angrier. There are probably 10 more boms planted out there for every one we disarm. Its in a bombs nature to explode, stopping a bomb from exploding, particularly by force, and certainly without some sort of international approval is just asking for more bombings. Arrogant cowboy French. Posted by: Mark Buehner at March 24, 2004 02:24 PM Its obviously islamic extremist, France opened up a can of worms when it passed that law prohibiting women from wearing religious headresses. Plus Chrivac had that nice letter sent to a french newspaper last week saying that france should expect increasing terrorist attacks. Posted by: gus3 at March 24, 2004 04:02 PM You forgot the Arab humiliation of having their bomb disarmed, Mark. Posted by: Achillea at March 24, 2004 10:10 PM ...and think about how much nastier the Nazis got after the Russians closed in on Hitler. Why, that war went on another 8 years!!
Posted by: torpedo_eight at March 24, 2004 10:57 PM The general opinion on this side of the pond is that this device (and according to their demands) several others have been planted by criminals whose only aim is monetary gain. Terrorism for profit...hmmmm....with the French Government as the "victims" who says there's no justice? Posted by: max at March 25, 2004 01:44 AM Speaking of Spain...does anyone know if the following theory has been considered:
Posted by: raoul at March 25, 2004 01:59 AM ..now that would be something but the bombing only changed the minds of the undecided in the election...(any parallels here),just goes to show you fear is such a serious weapon.

Posted by: Anthony at March 25, 2004 11:40 AM Your right Anthony, French troops would not have made a difference, but not for the reasons you believe. They could not be trusted with military information, since they would have betrayed that info to Saddam immediately. So if France had sent troops, Rumsfeld would have left them in some unstrategic corner to give the marsh arabs fashon advice. Posted by: Brian at March 29, 2004 02:05 PM Dear friends,
