MAARIV: Hezbollah opens fire in north, as "Yasin Brigades"

Israeli military sources reported this (Monday) afternoon that the Lebanese Shi'ite terror group Hexbollah begun shelling IDF outposts on the northern frontier. The fire was concentrated on the Shaba Farms, which Hezbollah claims as Lebanese territory despite UN rulings to the contrary -- and it announced the operation was being conducted by "the Ahmad Yasin Brigades." The timing soon after Israel's killing of Hamas leader Sheikh Yasin was not the only indication given today of growing Hezbollah involvement in the territories.

“Hezbollah pays Palestinian boys NIS 50 for every Molotov cocktail they throw at IDF troops”, The IDF's Judea and Samaria commander, Brig. Gen. Gadi Eisencott revealed at a conference in Tel-Aviv. According to Eisencott, the Lebanese terror group funds over 60 terror cells and has become a financial powerhouse of Palestinian terrorism.

Eisencott’s words come a week after a 12 year-old Palestinian boy, Abdullah Koran, was caught at an IDF roadblock on the West Bank with an explosive charge hidden in his schoolbag. Following an inquiry, it was revealed that Tanzim-Fatah operatives gave Abdullah NIS 5 for taking a bag they gave him through the roadblock, without telling him explosives were stashed in it.

Why don't we say to the Syrian leadership, "Erase Hezbollah or we will erase you"?

Posted by: angloamerican at March 22, 2004 01:28 PM

Both Hamas and Hezbollah are attempting to fight a war of attrition against Israel. They believe that if they can slowly erode Israel's economy and garner more support for the appeasers that make up the Israeli left, they'll eventually win as Israel literally suffers an economic and political collapse from within. I think Sharon finally realizes this and he's trying to bring the matter to a head (by removing a few heads -- see, e.g., the late Mr. Yassin). The all-out war that Hamas is now promising is the best thing for Israel in the long run. If you can find the cancer, you can destroy it. If it sits undetected for years and years, you lose.

I'm with silvertrain. An all out war is just what Isreal needs to win, and it's just what the idiots in the terror groups will give them.

From a purely tactical standpoint, it would be far better for the Paleys if they behaved like the VC (before Giap sent them to their deaths). Paitence and good planning and all that.

But the whole proper way of running an insurgency doesn't fit with this whole radical Islamic "macho" view of the world. Far better to rush tanks with AK's. Or fail to exploit the greatest lapse of Isreali defenses because nobody thought about supplies or anything except tanks and guns (Yom Kippur, anyone?).

In an all out war, like Hezbollah wants, Isreal will win. These guys seriously don't know how to run an insurgency. They're idiots with good PR. If it wasn't for the world press and the lefties, they would've been gone long ago.

Counter battery, out.

In 50, left 50.

On it, fire for effect.

They almost make it too easy.

This was a good thing for Iraq. AQ will have to co-ordinate a response. Hamas doesn't have the infastructure. The most cost effective counter attack will be in Europe. It will be either homocide bombers or car bombs. If they choose to go the car bomb route, they will have to get their car bomb makers out of Iraq and into europe. Plus co-ordinating all the attacks will expose more of the AQ commo structure and give NSA and Delta Force a chance to grab some bomb makers while they are moving. Plus the euros are supporting the terrorists and when the terrs attack Europe, the euros will have to make a choice. That is the best news since 9-11. This was more important then catching Saddam. Sharon is a genius.

NNTK, Ya sure, they they go to school and learn all about bombs and virgins, and trade martyr cards, play "kill a Jew" with daddy's Old M16 in the back alleys, and make fake bomb belts out of paper towel tubes in art class.
They are just dumb stupid kids, they will grow out of it.
You haven't grown out of being an idiot, so what makes you think they will?

Strange counter-terrorism lessons:

From time to time I have a problem with fruit flys. I only see one or two at a time when I am actually looking for them. They seem to be attracted to red wine however, I discovered this by just observing them. So, now before I go to bed at night, I leave a half glass of nice aromatic good stuff out on the counter. When I get up in the morning, there are a hundred just hanging out in the glass. That's when I just spray a quick shot of raid, getting them all. If I feel evil, instead of raid I put something over the top of the glass, trapping them, and move the glass into the microwave.

Repeat this process the following night, to get the last of them. They never learn. They are programmed to go to the wine.

Ok, gotta get to work now.

Oh, I forgot to mention that it works the same way with ants. Rather than try to figure out which of my cabinets has a little crumb they might want to swarm, sometimes I just leaveout a spoonfull of enticing nourishment. By morning, there are millions of them, frenzied, trying to get it. Then, I have options, Raid? Smash them? Simple green (slower kill)? Move it into the microwave?

The one thing I know I can't do is go into the ground and find every colony they have. I can only control their behavior by drawing them out to the targets I choose to give them.
