Haiti: Breaking News
  • Looting and killings were reported in the Haitian capital on Friday as loyalists of President Jean Bertrand Aristide manned barricades and vowed to beat back an expected rebel assault.
  • Aid workers in the capital Port au Prince are warning of an impending humanitarian disaster, with food shortages and an acute lack of medical supplies threatening to further endanger the population
  • President George W. Bush today is expected to review military options open to the U.S. [...] NBC News reported, citing officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. Among Bush's options is the deployment of Navy ships and 2,000 Marines, the officials said.
  • My relatives in Haiti are very much concerned about the situation. In our phone conversations, they describe the situation as: "Haiti is about to explode". They're hoping for things to calm down, for peace and for good leadership. Otherwise, they are keeping a low profile and staying out of harm's way.

As you post your comment, please mind our simple comment policy: we welcome all perspectives, but require that comments be both civil and respectful. We also ask that you avoid the extensive use of profanity, racist terms (neither of which we consider civil or respectful), and other boorish language.
