Abbas Resigns

[Fox News]

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas submitted his resignation to Yasser Arafat on Saturday, Fox News has learned.

Arafat, the Palestinian president, has accepted the terms according to chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat.

The resignation delivers a critical blow to U.S.-backed efforts in the Mideast, adding more instability to an already ailing "road map" peace plan.

The unpopular Abbas, weakened by a power struggle with Arafat, submitted his resignation in a letter delivered by senior Palestinian officials, according to Erekat.

Palestinian legislator Hanan Ashrawi said she met with Arafat after he received the letter, and that the Palestinian leader said he did not want to make a decision until he had spoken to Abbas in person.

In related news the EU has declared the political wing of Hamas a terrorist organization. (Hat tip: Charles Johnson, who declares this the Flying Pig Moment of the Day). Great comments thread going over on LGF.

This is significant; with this and the UN negotiations over Iraq one really has to wonder what is going on behind the scenes.

What I meant the other day about the trap.
The tangos broke the truce, it was as plain as the EU's stupidity to date so that they had to do as lewy Qatorz has linked: Admit that the Hamas folks they have dignified through diplomacy over the years are what they really are.
Note, too, the dramatic increase in the aggressiveness of the Israelis where the bad guys are concerned.
They know that now even the most pro-terrorist, antisemitic Frenchman can't try to deny them the right of self defense.
And notice, also, how the IDF are including their NSW guys in their Ops.
Smart people, those Israelis.
Endangered species, those Palestinian tangos.

No more missiles from an Apache on the horizon, now the Israelis are dropping bombs. With every Hammas a target, I'm guessing they'll stop the showy funerals for each 'martyr' where they all get to dress up and fire their AKs in the air.

At this point, I see Israeli snipers and AR-10s joining the parade. Neither group can coexist and me, I'm going to miss my little buddies in Hammas. What a fun group. Say hi to Pol Pot for me, guys!

Wolf,

A whole lot of Neandercons saw the trap when it was laid. We just hope the IDF opens up its biggest can of whoopass and gives the tangoes skidmarks in their britches. The small stuff doesn't have the lasting effect needed. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch.
