Explosion At Yale

At this hour, MSNBC and CNN are reporting an explosion in the mail room at the Yale University Law School. CNN adds the only other detail; that "one floor has collapsed."

UPDATE: Matt Drudge links this story by Associated Press. No great detail, but it's the earliest that I've seen.

UPDATER: MSNBC is now carrying live coverage from local affiliate WVIT-TV, reporting that they "have it confirmed from one source" that this explosion "was, in fact, a bomb".

UPDATERER: MSNBC is now speaking to Yale Daily News reporter Nathan Francis, who says that the explosion actually took place in a classroom. This may mean that this story does not belong on this page, but we'll see.

From a mail room? sounds like a local nut not a forign one.

Just guessing, but Bush's daughter Barbara is a Junior (?) at Yale. So perhaps a terrorist group sent a Bomb to her to detonate at a certain time, but she never picked up the package or something and it just exploded in the "Mail Room".

FOX has said that Barbara is already with her parents, so I believe she's alright...

Mail to the Bush daughters would likely be diverted before reaching the mail room.

I vote for "not terror".

School's out and college students ship stuff home, including stuff that maybe ought not to go into the mail.

And, finals are over, grades out. College students go berserk every year about this time at their colleges. Look at the Case-Western shooting recently.

If the next day sees more, I'm wrong. Else, I vote for something that shouldn't have been mailed, or a disgruntled student.

The Law School has its own mail room, so if in fact the early reports are correct and that's where the bomb exploded, it wouldn't have been intended for Barbara Bush. She's an undergrad, not a law student.

Smells like a local nut, a Bush hater. Al Qaeda likes its targeting a bit broader. But will see.

I wasn't exactly sure where to put this story here, and this page looked like the closest fit. Right from the edge, I understood that this might be something fairly removed from the main theme here.

It didn't make sense to ignore it, though.

You were right to post it, Billy.

Sometimes it's a duck even though it may not quack like one.

We still don't know the answer yet.

Check the grades and see who fail this year..

Glenn may be right. Don't a lot of law students start getting results of their bar exams this week? I know in New York they do.

Times have changed, I guess. At Cornell, they just jump off the bridge into Cascadilla Gorge.

The law school is still in finals, I believe.

There are some reports that there have been a lot of labor-management issues at Yale this year. Looks like a reasonable link to me. Disgruntled employee scenario.
