"Home-Grown Terror"

Sky:

Detectives are piecing together the lives of Britain's first suicide bombers - four home-grown young men who are believed to have brought carnage to London.

They are also hunting the mastermind behind the attacks that killed 52 people, amid fears there may be more volunteers ready to die for their cause.

Three of the four bombers are believed to be Shehzad Tanweer, 22, of Leeds, Mohammed Sadique Khan, 30, of Dewsbury, and Hasib Hussain, 19, of Leeds.

A fourth man from Yorkshire has been identified by police but not yet named.

He is believed to have been on the train which was devastated near Russell Square Tube station and is thought to be a friend of the other three suspects.

The call that cracked the case:

A TELEPHONE call from a worried mother in Leeds trying to find her missing teenage son led police to unravel the identity of the London suicide bombers. The call, at 10pm last Thursday, more than 12 hours after the London explosions, was one of thousands the police handled as news of the attack spread. The woman caller gave the name of her son as Hasib Hussain, who was aged 19.

BOMB SUSPECTS 'HAD BEEN ARRESTED'

The Government has denied claims the London bomb suspects were arrested last year.

Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said Home Secretary Charles Clarke was keen to let the men go free so they could be monitored.

"It seems that part of this team had been subject to partial arrest ... in Spring 2004," Mr Sarkozy told a news conference.

Depending on how one measures such things, these were not Britain's first suicide bombers. The terrorists who aimed for the American Embassy in Tel-Aviv and were self-diverted to "Mike's Place", a jazz club next door. were in fact British subjects. They killed four or five inncoent people who were out for an evening of entertainment.

But, then again, Europeans tend to ignore terrorism that occurs to other peoples.
