ETA Car Bomb Wounds 18 In Madrid

Yahoo/AP

A powerful car bomb exploded in Madrid Wednesday after a warning call from the armed Basque separatist group ETA, police said, in the latest of a string of attacks since Spain's prime minister offered talks with the group if it renounces violence.

Eighteen people were slightly injured, said Beatriz Martin, the city's emergency medical department spokeswoman. The explosion occurred around 9:30 a.m. in a working-class district north of the Spanish capital.

Police cordoned off the area where the bomb went off after an anonymous caller to the Basque newspaper Gara, which often serves as a mouthpiece for ETA, said a bomb would explode inside a Renault van.

...

The blast was the sixth blamed on ETA since Zapatero announced earlier this month he was willing to hold talks with the separatist group if it renounced its decades-old campaign of violence.

Spanish press (link in Spanish) more updated reports: it's 53 injured in total, though only 5 required hospitalization; and the bomb went off 15 minutes before it was supposed to according to the call warning of the explosion. That's very usual for ETA bastards, and it has costed several lifes from police in the past when they were still cordoning the area. Sometimes they have warn of the right time, but fail to mention the detail that there's a second one which explodes 15-30 minutes later, catching them off guard.

I do not understand the behavior of ZP during the last weeks. It is clear to me that ETA doesn’t want leave the weapons, since the independence of the Basque Country is not they target anymore. It is just their excuse. They all know that they lost (if they had it at some time) the trust of the Basque people. ETA keeps in the terrorist path for one single reason: its own survival. It eats from itself. It is not a separatist-terrorist group anymore, it is just a bloodthirsty sectarian bunch. But I will sleep fine today, knowing that while I am in my comfortable bed, Arnaldo Otegui the bastard is in a dark jail, as he deserves since many time ago. Who will be the next one moving?
