Barghouti: Intifada must go on

JERUSALEM POST: Barghouti: Intifada must go on

The Palestinian people should carry on with the intifada and the death of Yasser Arafat should not signal the end of the "resistance" against Israel, Marwan Barghouti, the jailed Fatah leader, said Thursday. "It is important that we hold on to our national principles and values that were made sacred by the shahid (martyr) leader [Arafat] who sacrificed his life for our cause, for national unity, and for the intifada and resistance," Barghouti said in a statement issued by his lawyer.

Well, it's worked so damn well up to now, I can't see why they'd abandon it! I mean - they've gotten nothing... which is fine if what you're looking for is to maintain a power base of angry people.

As far as getting an actual state goes? Well, how much land has it gotten them?

It's been 20 years, 4 of active warfare. You can continue Arafat's policies, which were designed to keep him in power by NEVER getting a Palestinian state, or you can abandon them for something with a chance of sucess.

It's your choice, really. But the cost/benefit analysis should lead to negotiation, I think. Because combat hasn't done the job...
