Congressman: Terrorists are infiltrating the U.S. via Mexico
Al Qaeda-related terrorists are coming to the U.S. over the Mexican border disguised as Mexicans, Congressman John Culberson (R-TX) has disclosed. The terrorists are adopting Hispanic names and blending in with the hundreds or thousands of illegal aliens who enter the U.S. via Mexico each day.
Culberson made this statement on the John & Ken show (KFI-640 Los Angeles), and KFI is reporting his statement in their news segments.
A listener to the show offers this report:
Congressman John Culberson (R - TX), speaking on the John and Ken show in Los Angeles, tells the hosts that he's now authorized, for the first time anywhere, to disclose that Middle Eastern men with Al Qaeda links have been mixing with the stream of illegal aliens coming in via the Southern US border. Having changed their names from Islamic to Hispanic ones, and having obtained authentic Mexican Matricula Consular ID cards using faked Mexican birth certificates, the men are paying up to $30,000 to obtain entry into the US among the flow of Hispanic illegal aliens crossing. They're choosing this path because the screening process the US is using on incoming airline passengers is becoming increasingly effective. Once in the US, these men are burrowing into small towns, posing as doctors, lawyers, CPAs, and other professional occupations which are scarce in these communities, making them more accepted and welcome. These "sleeper agents" then await activation for terrorist acts.
Culberson says he was informed of this by federal prosecutors in Texas... Culberson adds that he's also been told that an Al Qaeda attack before the November election is "100% certain."
One of the prosecutors is reportedly Southern District of Texas U.S. Attorney Michael Shelby.
Culberson will have more information, including a letter presumably from federal prosecutors, on Tuesday.
In the past, there have been rumors of terrorists planning to come over the border with Mexico. See, for instance, "Feds discount rumor of Iraqis lurking in Mexico" (Also here and here).
However, the fact that these statements are coming from a U.S. Representative and reportedly from a U.S. Attorney give them quite a bit of weight.
A month ago, WABC reported the following:
The FBI has arrested an American citizen [a naturalized citizen from Pakistan --LW] living in Queens said to be a sleeper agent for Al Qaeda.
ABC News reports investigators have tied the man to a terrorist cell set to carry out a series of bombings and assassinations in London...
The man has told investigators that Al Qaeda is planning more attacks in the United States. He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border...
In March 2003, I posted "Some 9/11 conspirators entered via Mexico?":
Some of the terrorists who helped with the September 11th attacks are now reported to have entered the country through Hidalgo County. State Representative Kino Flores, who sits on the state homeland security board, in an exclusive with Newschannel Five tells us these terrorists are said to have helped with the operation...
At the time, I unsuccessfully attempted to contact Flores for more information.
Over two years ago, Sen. John Breaux (D-La.) raised questions about Mexican trucks being used to transport hazardous materials or terrorists into the U.S.

[The post and this comment were derived from this post at my blog. The commentary portion of the original post is provided in this comment.]
Culberson is currently leading the fight in the House of Representatives to prevent the acceptance of the Matricula Consular card; the FBI says that card is inherently unsafe. The Matricula Consular card is only of use to illegal aliens, not to legal residents. Culberson's attempts are being opposed by the financial industry, pro-illegal immigration, and ethnic lobbies.
The articles "Preventing the Entry of Terrorists into the United States" and the heavily-footnoted "Enchilada Lite: A Post-9/11 Mexican Migration Agreement" have background information on the issue of border security and controlling illegal immigration.
Unfortunately, the Bush Administration is obviously not serious about controlling illegal immigration. While hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens are turned away from the border each year, the Bush Administration recently halted very minor immigration sweeps in Southern California due to pressure from pro-illegal immigration and ethnic groups.
Asa Hutchinson, the Under Secretary for Border and Transportation Security and the person who reportedly halted the sweeps, refused to indicate if or when the sweeps would be reinstated. And, very few companies are even fined for immigration violations. While there have been a few high-profile cases where companies have been prosecuted for immigration violations (such as Wal*Mart), they are so small in number that one is forced to draw the conclusion that those prosecutions are simply for show.
For instance, both Asa Hutchinson and Bush campaign manager Ken Mehlman were interviewed on KFI and asked about companies that were fined for immigration violations. Both provided Wal*Mart as an example that they were doing something. Neither however were able to provide examples of companies that operate in the Southern California area, where there are somewhere between one and three million illegal aliens.
Furthermore, the proposed Bush Amnesty has caused an uptick in illegal crossings, and Bush recently stated that "America is a nation of open doors".
On the other side of the fence, Vicente Fox and his predecessor have both claimed that the millions of "Mexicans" in the U.S. - including Mexican-Americans - are part of the greater Mexican Nation. In 2002, Mexico's foreign minister stated that he was instructing his consulates to begin "propagating militant activities" in order to obtain a "migration accord." None of these statements have been met with a public response from the Bush Administration.

One the advantages of being a Californio Viejo is being able to speak Spanish and having relatives in Mexico. A number of relatives on my mother's side left in 1857 and returned to Sonora. As a result I have a lot of primos ("cousins") they're in ranching, farming and business. And, several are academics. BTW, they're all members of PAN, the party that finally broke the stranglehold of PRI.
They have as friends throughout Northern Mexico quite a number of Catholic Palestinians and Lebanese, who came to Latin American early in the 20th Century. These " turkos ", as almost all ME people are known, report a noticeable influx of Arabic speakers into the larger cities where they can be relatively anonymous. They give themselves away by shopping, at times, in the ME groceries and, of course, soon everybody knows. The everybody includes, of course, JTF-6 a very interesting organization with a lot of history in the area.
Now, as everybody knows, US military presence in Mexico is not welcome. But, there are quite a few US citizens; business people, tourists and retirees; who go to this area to conduct business, tour, see friends and relatives and just generally hang about.
Is it any wonder that at least some of these Arab turkos seem to move from apartments, houses and rural properties quite suddenly and many of them leave quite a few things that you would expect them to take with them. And, no, none of them are going to Cuba.
Two other interesting factoids. There are many Cessna Caravans in the US near the border. These are admirable STOL aircraft with the ability to use improvised strips. Many belong to air freight/passenger companies working cross border.
There are also a number of private, gated and guarded housing developments along the West Coast of Mexico. Some are associated with air strips that can accept the larger inter-continental business jets.
The small town stuff is just nonsense. None of these guys fit in and many can't speak enough Spanish to order a burrito at Taco Smell. They're showing up at US mosques, however.

Hungry Valley,
I understand part of what you say. Please expand on the airstrip part, etc.
Are you saying these guys are being snatched by "whoever in some government.... Mexico or ?" or are they just moving to the U.S. under drug cover, etc.
This really concerns me as a San Antonio, Texas resident. We are obviously a target for anything out of Mexico.
As you probably know, we have major military and medical commands including the Air Force basic training command at Lackland. We also have the main Air Force hospital (Wilford Hall) and the Army's Burn Treament Center at Fort Sam Houston.
So, please explain more. Thank you!

As a resident in a small (35,000) southern city in Louisiana, I find it plausible. We have a "transient" work base which brings in Mexican labor for sugarcane harvests and "Oilfield Boom" periods in our Port. In the past five years, I have noticed a number of "middle eastern" appearing professional types moving into the community and personally have never paid any attention to it.
About six months ago, the owner of the garage that serviced my vehicles for State Inspections was closed, permenately. Nothing in the newspaper on the subject. This garage had a thriving business and was owned by an Arab from Cairo. I have since found that he had been an illegal alien for the ten years he has been in this city.

leaddog2,
I’m simply connecting a lot of dots, as I was trained to do, using information that I know and information that comes from the family/personal network. I trust this network enough to give the information and the sourcing moderately high credibility. None of it has been gained from government documents or contacts I might have within the intelligence and defense communities.
That being said, I started out as a Latin Americanist with a specialty in Mexico because of my personal history and my ability to do field research more easily. Many of my initial contacts then were with the the International Boundary and Water Commission, a joint US/Mexico group that’s been around since 1889. The field officers of this organization were and are phenomenal sources. Deeper into the interior I used other sources in the Mexican governmental organizations and family connections to spread my network of informants wider. As a result, I got information that was much different than if I’d done a traditional university based research project. In addition, I made sure that I did not advertise the fact that I was coming off active duty in MI otherwise the Mexicans would have thrown me back north about as far as Portland. To this day I am able to go south and see my now friends and have carnitas and a couple of cervezas . OK, enough background and bona fides.
Surreptitious aircraft landing in Mexico is old news. Happens all the time on strips, roads and vacant fields. What is different is that the successor to the deHaviland Twin Otter, the Cessna Caravan is being seen more and more landing at night, on unlit strips. Sometimes they are guarded by “Mexican Police”, not odd given the traditional corruption of police agencies by the drug trade. A Caravan is a very pricey a/c but with GPS, radar altimeter and night vision it is a platform able to flow low, slow and at night while still being able to haul high gross weights.
Several of my friends have been in Mexican bars where gringos feel safe and have felt impelled to do covert “coin checks”. (Google it and realize that there are several recognition protocols in play). They have gotten no response but the individuals have left in ones and twos soon after. You see very few hyper fit men in Mexico who sit certain ways in bars.
I could go on. But, I won’t. Items: Mexico, particularly in the North, is a culture fueled by gossip and chatter. It is a mestizo culture. Recall the that the Indians miles away from the Little Big Horn knew of Custer’s defeat days before the information was known by the local whites.
There has been an influx of ME men into N. Mexico. Some of them have not been seen and their domiciles have been abandoned.
There are two places I like to go on the West Coast of Mexico. One is between Manazanillo and Puerto Vallarta and the other is near Bahia San Carlos further north. In both places, independently, without asking, I have been told that terroristas are being flown out or are being taken out on boats.
If I were running this kind of operation and had the long term resources that have been built along the border to do counter drug work I would design an operation to do snatch ops and make sure that the "snatchees" would never come into the US.
At the same time I would be stepping up efforts to build networks among the Christian Arabs in the SW and in Mexico. I would target ethnic groceries and try to develop informants. To the extent that I was able I would use anti-drug, in country, resources and re-task them toward illegal ME aliens.
I begin active Immigration Service (or whatever their calling it this week) sweeps to round up illegals and use those efforts to also develop information regarding any ME sleepers. ET, there is a chance that your mechanic was an illegal Coptic Christian not a sleeper. I'd make sure that the local agencies looked into his social network if any.
That's the end of my raw intel dump WAG based on intel I've picked up as a private citizen with a non-ordinary background.

UPDATE
I emailed a source in Arizona who tells me that sweeps and deportations are again being done and that the Atzlan radicals are up in arms since to them there are no "illegal immigrants" into areas ceded by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago.

Ignorant:
If you listen to the people who are suppossed to represent us and maintain the sovereignty of the United States you just want to vomit. When someone says Hispanic what they are really saying is illegal Mexican and Bush and his cronies including John McCain are to prostituted to big business to admit it.
Immigration is allowing immigrants from all countries to come to this country legally. It is not allowing hordes of Mexicans to take over this country at the urging of Vicente Fox.
Immigrants assimilate into the society, illegal Mexicans want to create a seperate country with Spanish as the language within the United States or to seperate part of this country into a seperate nation Atzlan. Illegal Mexicans are the most racist group of people in the country as can be seen on MECHa web sites. Their motto is "only for the Mexican race"
Some how these ignorant politicians who have failed to enforce the law or protect our Borders have convinced the American people that calling an illegal Mexican an illegal Mexican is racist. This is a lie and totally ignorant. How many rights do Americans have in Mexico? They basically have the right to be deported put in jail or shot.
How much influence do Americans have when an American is tried in Mexico? None and yet Fox can tell American judges and politicians they can not try and convict or execute Mexican criminals who commit violent crimes against American citizens. What is going on? Bush either lost his mind or didn't have one to start with.
This country can not afford to educate it's citizens, provide healthcare, maintain Social Security, or sustain manufacturing but many of these ignorant governors {Colorado and Illinois} for example want to provide free education and healthcare for illegal Mexicans.
Ross Perot was correct about the sucking sound of jobs leaving this country but he forgot about the sucking sound of illegal Mexicans coming to this country to steal jobs from American citizens. He also forgot the fact that our so called leaders were so ignorant they would not control the border and Mexican drug cartels would spread their influence across this country and murder innocent children.
Vicente Fox is anything but an ally of this country. He has made it perfectly clear that he is an enemy to all American citizens and he should be stopped. American, Asian, and Europian firms have invested hundreds of billions of dollars in Mexico and that moron can not provide Mexicans with jobs which will support their families. Why? S.O.S. graft and corruption.
Mexico has been one of the most corrupt governments in the world and it sure as heck has not gotten any better under Fox. Drug cartel wars and murders are an everyday occurence and murders of women in Juarez are a national disgrace as stated by the U.N. Jane Fonda has done more to call attention to the fact then has Fox but who knows the drug cartels are probably paying him off.
The Arizona border has been turned into a vast latrine {Time Sep. 20, 2004} by illegal Mexicans, Arizona has responded by passing laws to stop rewarding illegal Mexicans but want to be President McCain ignores the problem and what it is doing to his constituents. Cornyn{Texas} wants to reward illegal Mexicans who have broken the law but can not find a way to help poor Americans.
Our so called leaders are so prostituted to big business and Bush's vision of his world that they can not see that they are creating a situation in this country which is much more dangerous then terrorism. Ridge {red, yellow, green and orange} lies to the American people every time he says this country is safer. Safer how? 200,000 Saudis.Iraqis, Iranians, Egytians, Pakistanis, Afghans and other people from countries who hate this country crossed into the U.S. through the Arizona sector and Bush and Ridge are doing nothing about it.
We can send Americans to be slaughtered in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect illegal Mexicans but we can not control our borders to protect Americans. What kind of "leaders" do we have?
It is time for the American people to demand that illegal Mexicans are deported and people who want to immigrate legally are allowed. It is time to recall idiots who want to reward illegal Mexicans and it is time for the people and the states to take action to protect this country if our so called federal government will not.
African American and Mexican American politicians amaze me. People are dying in the ghettos everyday, Mexican Americans are the hardest hit economically by illegal Mexicans and yet the so called elected representatives of these people are ignoring illegal Mexican immigration. Every dollar being spent to support illegal Mexicans is a dollar that should be being spent to provide healthcare, education, basic necessities, drug rehab programs etc. for poor Americans and what are their so called representatives saying about it? Nothing! Kind of makes you sick if you are a poor American.
Contrary to what most of these politicians are stating the only thing a Mexican majority in this country will be good for is Mexico and God help the Americans who will be the minority. The situation has gotten so bad that a proven drug addict who was Mexican and killed 11 Americans and injured hundreds of others in California wasn't even identified as Mexican by our so called unbiased news agencies. The public doesn't even know if he is Mexican American or illegal Mexican.
I know that this is long and rambling but if I start to talk about Mexican discrimination against Americans such as that practised by UTEP this will go on forever so Ill just end by saying to deluge your so called representatives with phone calls and e-mails and the next time you go to the polls to vote for a leader vote for one who is going to serve Americans. If your present "public official" isn't concerned about Americans try to get him/her recalled and help to save the country.
