Arafat announces 'Olympic Truce' with Israel

JERUSALEM POST: Arafat announces 'Olympic Truce' with Israel

Arafat issued the call at a lighting ceremony for a symbolic Olympic torch at his headquarters in Ramallah.

"On the occasion of lighting the Palestinian Olympic torch, I declare our respect and commitment for an Olympic Truce, which I signed in my besieged office," Arafat said.

"We hope that the revival of the ancient and noble Greek tradition will help in creating a world that enjoys peace, justice and security for the coming generations," he said.

A senior Israeli official dismissed Arafat's offer, accusing the Palestinian leader of being behind the killings of Israeli athletes during the 1972 Munich Olympics.

"Arafat's Olympic torch is a torch of death. There is a big difference between what Arafat says and what he does," the official said.

somebody please tell me he's kidding, right? is he really that STUPID? As far as I can see, the only reason Arafat would light a torch would be to practice getting used to the fire he's gonna have to deal with when he goes to HELL!

Arafat is now descending to self-parody, or perhaps self-pity.

I feel very little pity for him. He had a chance to get a nation state for his people by supporting Oslo. Instead, he undermined the process, giving rise to things worse than him. All the while stealing from his people.

What a piece of work. Perhaps the Israelis will put him out of his misery. But more likely someone in Al Aqsah probably will.

I've lost respect for Mossad over this.

How hard would it have been to put a stick of dynamite in the torch?

Davies, that is really funny! I'm having this vision of Wile E. Coyote with a kafiya on his head running down the road and blowing himself up.

As for the truce offer, I think the Israelis should accept, on the condition that Arafat enters the javelin catching competition.

Taqiyyah

Only jihadists would kill at the Olympics so he just has to worry about the likes of Hamas and Hezbollah offing his precious athletes as collateral damage. So who does he claim now was responsible for the brutal massacre at the 1972 games in Munich, sodomy arabian crown prince Abdullah's "zionists"?

He should attend. Afterall, just like Ambassador Cleo Noel in 1973, he would have diplomatic protection, right?

"Allah is in the House" has this development nailed.

Well.....I feel safer now. Think I'll go ahead and get those tickets for the Olympics.......and send them to Arafatass.

Yes, I have signed this declaration of respect and commitment - did I mention that I was besieged? In my office? Here I sit, besieged, in my office offering this gesture of respect and I cannot even go to market due to being besieged. I hope that the world will enjoy peace and justice and security while I am besieged...in my office.
