Hamas has "right" to avenge Rantissi death

REUTERS UK: Hamas has "right" to avenge Rantissi death

A top Hamas political leader has said the group has the right to avenge in kind the assassination of its military wing leader, Abdel-Aziz al-Rantissi, in Gaza.

"The group has the right to revenge and revenge can and should be in kind. The issue for us is beyond revenge. The main issue is to confront occupation and this is a pledge that we have made and we will keep," Moussa Abu Marzouk, deputy chief of the group's political bureau, told Reuters by telephone from an unknown location.

When asked if the assassination on Saturday was a blow to the group he said, "Don't you worry, there are ranks of men behind ranks of men who will to carry the mission."

(Reuters puts quotes only around the word right, not the entire headline.)

Does acting "in kind" mean that Hamas has Apache helicopters?

Just wondering if there is a translation problem.

I agree, 100%.

Hamas, and the larger portion of Islam, has funded, supported, and executed acts of war against Israel since 1947.

Obviously israel has joined the war anew, and no enemy target is safe any more.

The Islamics have every right to try to win.

Key word, "try".

I expect to see more unrest across the globe over this, particulrly in Iraq.

Freedom isn't free, and security doesn't come from playing safe.

I'm not a big fan of military solutions but this attack is logical, effective and brilliant. I just read an update that Hamas will keep his new leader secret. Now that wouldn't work.

What is the point of a political/terrorist leader if he remains anonymous ?

It doesn't matter who the 'real' leader. After this, any name associated with Hamas leadership is not only targetted, but actually killed. The action follows the talk.

The outrage will be less this time. Rantissi has just assumed leadership position in less than 2 months and hadn't established himself as a worthy successor and now he's dead.

Good job IDF / Mossad.

"The issue for us is beyond revenge. The main issue is to confront occupation..."

We know.

Saw the swarm on tv with a kid on a guy's shoulders. I can only shake my head at the waste of humanity. Who could conceive of it? A whole culture, people, ideology that is totally committed to hatred and destruction. A few years ago, I read an article in Newsweek/TIME/whichever that glorified the intifada. At the time, I didn't know anything about it, so I felt some sympathy for the "Palestinians." However, the more I learnt, the more I realized that I could have no sympathy for a people hell bent on genocide. I also realized that their will to genocide is a consequence of their belief in Islam, an ideology that is far worse than Communism and Nazism combined. It is the ultimate in irrationality and nihilism. As a Christian, my regret is that I cannot do other than rejoice at the death of a man. That's not how it's supposed to be. All I can do is say thank God the Israelis, for the IDF and Mossad. The Israelis are the canary in the mine; they stand between all Christendom and the Islamic will to genocide. Thank God, in GWB, we have a president who has recognized the valuable role of Israel to the continuation of civilization.
