Maybe, Maybe Not

No one knows for sure if ial-Zawahri is one of the "cornered" al-Qaeda members, though most news reports are writing as if the chances are better that is him than not.

"We have been receiving intelligence and information from our agents who are working in the tribal areas that al-Zawahri could be among the people hiding there," said a military official. "All of our efforts are to capture him."[emphasis added]

Interesting graf in the latest CNN story:

Government sources said 18 al Qaeda operatives and some tribesmen were captured two days ago, and the information they provided suggested al-Zawahiri was in the area.

Sounds like these guys are flipping like fish.

"Sounds like these guys are flipping like fish."

After the fourth or fifth day of no sleep, Saddam himself would polish Gdub's....shoes....if asked.

Hasn't been long enough for that to work yet, so you have to keep an eye out for disinfo.

Agree on the disinfo.

Anybody find it unusual that the Pakistanis would call a news conference to say they MAY have cornered SOMEbody.

This is a non-story unless you are the one being cornered.

Think our Pakistani "allies" could be tipping off the hunted as to their plight with our own media?

I recall seeing this "they must be protecting someone" story before. The end result was a lump of rock that had no obvious value and a lot of dead terrorists. Is this a bait & switch we keep falling for?

Or is it just me?

Just curious.

Ok,

Just read one of the previous threads about the whole situation.

You guys provide good "background" and "color".

Maybe it isn't so suspicious, after all.

It's not the no. 2.

it's a pashtun tribal leader. the chief of pashtun ahmadi tribal federation.
