U.S. Alert Level Raised to High/Orange

"Extensive and considerable protections have been or soon will be in place all across the country. Your government will stand at the ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to stop terrorism during the holiday season and beyond."

The government on Sunday raised the national threat level to orange, the second-highest, saying attacks were possible during the holidays and that threat indicators are "perhaps greater now than at any point" since Sept. 11, 2001.

"Extensive and considerable protections have been or soon will be in place all across the country," Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge (search) said at a hastily arranged news conference at department headquarters.

"Your government will stand at the ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to stop terrorism during the holiday season and beyond."

Said Ridge: "These credible sources suggest the possibility of attacks against the homeland around the holiday season and beyond. These strategic indicators, including Al Qaeda's continued desire to carry out attacks against our homeland, are perhaps greater now than at any point since Sept. 11."

Hmm... I have a plugin for MT that shows the current alert level and it hasn't changed yet...

At least the government is doing its best to inform and protect us this holiday season.

Steve ... I just installed the sme plugin here at TCP. You may need to rebuild (unless you have a chron job scheduled, or another plugin onboard, that automatically rebuilds) to freshen the XML feed.

The two words that stick out like eyesores in this are hastily arranged. I'll be pondering the implications of that all day tomorrow during my shopping trip in DC.

Spin: Go to mt-plugins.org and search for the "DHS" plugin ... all the info is there.
