In reference to linked articles on "transnational progressivism" (henceforth referred to as "TP")...

So, am I correct in understanding that TP is a return to the tribal system of power relationships? The individual, that center of the Enlightenment, is no longer important, and groups are?

Haven't we seen enough of the consequences of that thinking? What kind of sick f**kers want a return to that?

Every once in a while, I despair of ever being able to put myself in a political category, and then something like Transnational Progressivism comes along and allows me to do so.

I am Anti-Transnational Progressive. According to one source, that makes me a neoconservative. According to the very same source, I might also be called a neoliberal.

It has always astonished -- and ashamed -- me that the institution that gave oppressed portions of the populace their first chance at true equality -- an institution that reinforces individuals and individual rights as above and beyond any categorical label -- should come under such a hard attack by those same liberated groups, who would choose instead to pursue their lives not as distinct individuals, but as interchangeable parts of a carefully labeled whole.

What an interesting citation.

You know TBox, this is probably goin' to sound pretty freakin' boring, but I'm goin' with it -

TP = EVIL. I mean that. I lose ME, and I lose my RIGHT to be ME.

If inalienable rights are mine, and no one, including the State can take them from ME, then I feel that I MUST defend not only MYSELF, but the government (which I have chosen to govern ME and my fellow citizens). TP is the antithesis of those rights, and I am a mere citizen and pawn of the 'State', whether that state is multi-national or mono-national. I hope to shout someone tries to put that one over on me. I really do. 'Bring 'em on'.

MG - I overlooked a comment that you made, and I'd like to offer my POV as a possiblility for consideration -

You said - So, am I correct in understanding that TP is a return to the tribal system of power relationships?

It is not 'tribal', and by that I mean, in a tribe, the 'Chief' is invested with the power to make decisions about social order within the tribe. This is more on the level of the ancient Greek social order, where the 'citizen' falls under the sway of the 'state'. There is a distinct difference between 'man' and 'citizen'. Man has 'rights' that even the state cannot abrogate, because the state has not the power to grant or take away such rights. Only a power greater than the state can grant 'inalienable' rights. TP subjugates man, and makes him a mere member of a 'group', be that group white, black, or gay, or whatever. Hell, to my mind, this is even WORSE (if that's possible) than tyranny. What if I'm a midget, and the tall guys decide that midgets are of no value to the social order? What's happens to me and my fellow midgets? Are we toast or just sliced bread? This is pure and simple Bulls**t.

I've seen Transnational Progressives referred to as 'TransNazies' as recently (or far back, however you want to look at it) as December 2002.

Hezbollah warns U.S. to back off
BEIRUT — The leader of Lebanon's Hezbollah has a warning for the United States:
Any attempt to destroy the militant group could mean American interests being attacked around the world.

Hezbollah's already on the list, they just have to wait their turn like everybody else.
Al Queda's already done what Hezbollah's threatened to do, and you see what's been happening to them.
Having put in my 2 cents, it's off to Golden Gate Park for some morning PT, 3 1/2 hours late, but hey, I'm on vacation!

TransNazis? That'd make them Transnational Socialists, which is an accurate description, but still...

TransNapis? TransNapris? TransNaProgs!

Then we could have the Frog TransNaProg alliance.

I, for about 10 seconds, thought this whole trans-sh*t was just that. SH*T. You know, like, a 'what-if' thingy, and 'let's think outside the box'. They're thinkin' INSIDE THE BOX. If they get outta the box, squash 'em like bugs. 'Frogs'. Socialist freakin' CARP.
