Thanksgiving - Open Thread

It’s Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. It’s a day where we eat, drink, watch football and spend time with family. And, of course, it’s also a day to give thanks.

I am certainly thankful for everyone who is part of the Command Post family; the contributors and readers alike. I am especially thankful to Alan - I am fortunate to have started this site with someone who has become not only an incredible business partner, but a lifelong friend.

I am thankful for my family, my friends and for America; I am most fortunate to live in a country that allows me to indulge in pursuit in happiness freely; a country that allows me the freedoms to live, love, learn and laugh without fear.

Alan and I would like to hear from all of you today. What are you thankful for?

I give thanks for Michele. She rocks like Ronnie James Dio eating Turkey with all the fixins.

I’m thankful I’m not Michael Moore.

But seriously folks…

There’s so much. My wife. My son. The fact that I recovered from a very serious illness 25 years ago (I’ve been living on borrowed time ever since).
I’m thankful for being given the opportunity to help other people now and then. And been able to contribute a scintilla to the sum of human knowledge.
I’m thankful that I was able to make a hole in the Berlin Wall, that the Cold War ended in victory for the people on both sides, and that I was in at the kill.
In 2001, I’m thankful I was able to work on a Space project, a lifetime ambition (and not exactly common in Australia).

I’m thankful for all those who know me - but tolerate me anyway.

Oh yes - I’m thankful I’m not a Turkey (though some would differ on that opinion…)

What I Am Thankful For

I am thankful to live in a nation where people are free to be Muslims and atheists, rather than forced to be.

I am thankful that any self-righteous prig can say nasty things about the President, and live to tell about it.

I am thankful for my friend in the Middle East who, in defening our nation’s liberties, is helping to bring similar liberties to the people of Iraq.

I am thankful for the freedom to ignore country music and Dan Rather.

I am thankful for the Internet, where I can talk about freedom in the hope that others will come to agree with me. And I can run the risk of having my own views changed by others who point out where I am wrong.

I am thankful for all these things. My life is richer for them.

..if my thanks were water..the oceans would overflow..the tinest grain of sand.. the desert could not match them ..the stars in the heavens would only be a thimble full..yes this day we are truly blessed..
..I think Elvis said it best in his song ..”I Believe”..

Thanks for signing in, . Now you can comment. (Click here should you choose to sign out.)

As you post your comment, please mind our simple comment policy: we welcome all perspectives, but require that comments be both civil and respectful. We also ask that you avoid the extensive use of profanity, racist terms (neither of which we consider civil or respectful), and other boorish language.

We reserve the right to delete any comment, and to prohibit you from commenting on this site, if we feel you have broached this policy. As a courtesy, we will first send you an email noting a violation so you understand the boundaries. This will occur only once, however, and should we ban you from our comment forums we expect that ban to be permanent.

We also will frown upon those who suggest that we ban other individuals for voicing unpopular opinions, should those opinions be voiced in a civil and respectful manner. The point of our comment threads is to provide a forum for spirited though civil and respectful discourse … it is not to provide a forum in which everyone will agree with your point of view.

If you can live by these rules, welcome aboard. If not, then we’re sorry it didn’t work out, and thanks for visiting The Command Post.
