Dan's Winds of War Excerpts, July 10
Winds of Change.NET runs "Winds of War" every Monday & Thursday - a fast, convenient, high-powered round-up of global developments that matter in the War on Terror. Thanks to a scheduling glitch, we have 2 editions today. Venemous Kate's Winds of War: 2003-07-10 is up right now on Winds of Change.NET. As a bonus, I'm posting excerpts from Dan Darling's Winds of War bulletin here in relevant areas of The Command Post. Iraq Report
meanwhile, back at the ranch, centcom reports: COALITION FORCES SEIZE STOLEN IRAQI ARTIFACTS BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Soldiers from the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion seized 12 Iraqi artifacts while conducting a raid on a residence of a suspected smuggler here on July 7. The artifacts consisted of miniature statues, a skull and a clay bowl. A local archeologist determined one of the artifacts to be pre-Samarian, dated 3000 – 3200 BC. According to the archeologist, all of the pieces had been previously at the Baghdad Museum. The artifacts were found wrapped in towels in a rice bag in the residence along with AK-47s, grenades, several million Iraqi dinar and communications equipment. Coalition forces also detained two prospective buyers. All individuals are being detained pending further investigation. A few years in the brig ought to "mend the fences", while the smuggler needs a loooonggg sentence. All that hardware is a little much for him to claim he was merely keeping it for self defense purposes. This might set an example for other citizens who might consider stockpiling for terrorist acquaintances or for any anti coalition, or civilian criminal enterprises, that might present an opportunity.
