Former Iraqi Interior Minister, Baath Party Official in Coalition Custody

[Fox News]

Saddam Hussein's former interior minister and a top member of his Baath party have been taken into custody, the latest arrests from a list of 55 most wanted Iraqi fugitives, the U.S. military said Wednesday.

Mizban Khadr Al Hadi, a high-ranking member of the Baath Party regional command and revolutionary command council, and former interior minister Mahmud Dhiyab Al-Ahmad were taken into custody on Tuesday, according to a statement from Tampa, Fla.-based U.S. Central Command.

Al Hadi, number 23 on the U.S. list of 55 most wanted Iraqis from Saddam's ousted regime, turned himself in in the capital. Al-Ahmad, number 29 on the list, was also captured on Tuesday, the Central Command statement said. It gave no further details.

That's the Nine of Hearts and Seven of Spades, respectively, for those keeping score at home.

Slowly but surely the noose is tightening. Interestingly I have just looked at the BBC, Reuters and the Guardian sites, none are reporting this important development.

Expect more news like this, plus breakthroughs in WMD intel, in the next couple of months.

Talking of captured political figures , imagine my joy when I saw that a British MP (actually a good guy) has been called up for service in Iraq. He will be serving 6 months in this semi tropical paradise.

Do the bloggers on this post have any political or media figures they would like to conscript for 6 months behind the HESCO or riding a Bradley?

Posted by: Ubique at July 9, 2003 09:43 AM

Ubique! Have we got a list for you! Hey, fellows and fellowettes. How about we do a TopTen for our excellent, right-minded fellow, Ubique! Anyone?

Posted by: Dave Dubé at July 9, 2003 10:08 AM

Are any of these captured clowns in the video that was just released? You'd think that with all of them sitting at the table with Sodom, we would have some of them in custody, which would help date the tape.

Posted by: Jeff B at July 9, 2003 10:09 AM

Pols to put on the front line? I've got just one I'd love to see there - Jean Chretien. Perhaps he could fly around in a Sea King helicopter for a while and then tell us all why this "gamble with your life" flying machine is still the only thing Canadian forces have.

HAH!
I second the motion for good ol' JeanBoy. If we send him over there, all he'd have to do is open his mouth and let the hot air flow........ It would be so hot that no one would have the energy to fight back.

Posted by: Cdn Grl at July 9, 2003 10:46 AM

It's not the obly thing Canadian forces have, it's the only thing the navy has.
But I'm all for putting chretien in one. He's the bonehead that cancelled the deal we had for new ones, and ended up paying the same amount of money in cancelled contract fines. But hey, we got a dented used UK sub, that finally after extensive overhails and refitting finally made it back into the water last week

Posted by: Bubba at July 9, 2003 11:34 AM

Dave, some suggestions for your list:

Rudy Guliani and John McCain: prisoner debriefing team.

Maybe if we need to raid another heavily armed compound of Baath holdouts we could give the job to... Janet Reno...

Posted by: lewy14 at July 9, 2003 11:36 AM

Grey Davis and Willie Brown

As a two man team, armed with BB guns, patrolling by themselves in Central Iraq. 1 BB apiece, to make things interesting. Their orders:
"Don't come back without Saddam."

UBIQUE! If I was 30+ years younger, I'd wanna be on your team! Bubba is the 'Hulk', or at least he says he is. He's also married to a French lass who obviously has a good taste in men. He SAYS he can pick up a 165 pound wounded guy, and run with him. When I was in the boots, I weighed 135 pounds soaking wet, which during the Monsoon season, not that difficult to sustain. I sure wish BB was about 40 years younger. She coulda done that eyelash thingy, and I'da gone anywhere for OR with her. Wouldn't you, Bubba???

Posted by: Dave Dubé at July 9, 2003 01:20 PM

I think UB was suggesting we be on the Med selection committee, so i suggest one of the dixie chicks to fill out the medical contingent

Posted by: Bubba at July 9, 2003 01:27 PM

CentCom has its first four of a kind!

Posted by: Boomshock at July 9, 2003 01:31 PM

135 lbs dave? I haven't seen those numbers on the scale since I was around 12 years old.
I struggle to stay a light 225

Posted by: Bubba at July 9, 2003 01:31 PM

jeez bubba, I would think you being a pig farmer and all, would be on the Atkins diet! that'll get the weight off.

Posted by: commander at July 9, 2003 01:52 PM

Using Ubique's criteria:

Transfer SF mayor Willie Brown and Cal gov Grey Davis to this mine clearing party.

Brown
Davis
Nicholas Kristof(when in Iraq he kept writing how he was helping Bush look for WMD, so this'll maybe help him find SOMETHING).
"Carville"
Jimmy Carter
Jane Fonda(Jane, you are not forgotten, you can take the point- bon voyage- BOOM!!!!, say "hi" to Uncle Ho!)
As the CO, Michael Bloomberg, with a book of summonses in hand(this is one of the richest Democrats in the world- he "became" a Republican just to run for mayor. Now he's in there raising every tax he can get his hands on, like any good Dem). To show how he leads by example, he can go in right behind Jane Chi Minh.

Posted by: Seth at July 9, 2003 01:55 PM

Bubba...

I don't know about dem CHIX... (whining is going on here)... I was lookin' for a piece activist! :o) Was that PC? MY BAD? I must be sufferin' Allusions of Grandeur here... I got this vision goin' on of a French woman with eyelashes here, and you're spoilin' it with BlondeJokes! They could do a stand in thingy for CheapTrix, however. I'm goin' with Seth - Janey could stand one of those 2200-0200 watches where the BaathBoys slip in and have their 'way' with her. LOL...

Posted by: Dave Dubé at July 9, 2003 02:52 PM

HEY!!! "comander" I'm not FAT!! LoL I can bend down tie my shoes and all, see my wee wee, etc.

And, if you didn't know, pork is lean meat these days!
Dixie chicks are peaceniks aren't they dave?

Posted by: Bubba at July 9, 2003 04:41 PM

Dave is right though, they do call me the hulkster because of my size and my blond mustache and blue eyes, and mean look. I got more hair on top though, and not as old as he is

Posted by: Bubba at July 9, 2003 04:46 PM

Ubique;

I wont speculate as to who should go, unless of course, I myself would be there with them.

Let me clarify that I have never served in any enlisted capacity. All my support is in the building and service of prototype development. You know all those big exercizes that seem to attract more contractors than folks in green? Striker command and control is my latest.

I care that these things work and serve in the cause of freedom. That they save lives eventually is what I care about. There are hundreds of thousands of workers like me and just yesterday we lost 6. We lost one in my organisation on Flight 93 and another two in Kuwait in the buildup and when the apartments blew up we lost another 7, all in my company and affiliates.

But that is nothing compared to the tip of the spear. Thanks guys. Someday maybe we'll meet up somewhere...

Posted by: devils chewtoy at July 9, 2003 07:15 PM

DC, "ask not what your country can do for you, but wht you can do for your country"

As long as you keep that in mind while you work, your a good man, unlike these Gimme gimme gimme democrats.

Sure, there are things we can do as a society to make life good for all, but you also have to work and create the wealth to provide it.

If everyone was on welfare, who would write the check?
sadly, thats the direction France and Germany have gone, and it's causing a big collapse

Posted by: Bubba at July 9, 2003 08:55 PM

Got another one for ya Bubba;

If everyone gave up smoking, no one would be around to process those welfare checks!!!

LoL

Posted by: devils chewtoy at July 9, 2003 10:53 PM

I nominate the entire CA state legislature for mine clearing duty, and agree with the transfer of Gray Davis to the same. However, I'd rather have them in Afganistan. There are more mines to clear over there.

Posted by: Anon at July 9, 2003 11:15 PM

LOL

I second the motion!

Posted by: Seth at July 9, 2003 11:58 PM

I'm sure I can smuggle alot of rubber Nato machine guns out of armories for them....
(those are the fake guns we give recruits because we just don't trust them with real guns)

Posted by: Bubba at July 10, 2003 12:58 AM

Most of those people would probably even be afraid of the rubber ones, LOL.
"Is that.... is th- that a g- gun? Oh, my! Lavender, fetch me my handkerchief, I th- think I'm going to faint!"

Posted by: Seth at July 10, 2003 01:49 AM

Anthony!

Was that statement meant to provoke an emotional response of some sort, perchance?
LOL!!!!
You are a very funny man. This brief post of yours made me think, for some reason, of a guy who has a secret wish that he was Ruth Buzzi. Do you dress to look like Ruth Buzzi?
I read your posts, Anthony, and they inspire me to laugh, though I know it's cruel to express mirth with those less fortunate, when I should be feeling sorry for you.
It's okay if you dress up to look like Ruth Buzzi, this is a free country and by gum, if you want to be Ruth Buzzi you go right ahead! We all support you 100%!

Posted by: Seth at July 10, 2003 02:41 AM

Seth, Who is Ruth Buzzi?

Anthony, in my experience there are two kinds of people who kill babies. Those who do it deliberately
such people are not soldiers or warriors, they are the people that soldiers and warriors (and those who arm them) seek out and destroy.

Then there are those unfortunates who through appalling accident find that they have caused the death of an innocent, and believe me that can cause enough pain to bring a strong man down.

There is a third category, perhaps life form, the creatures that try and make cheap comments about death? I'm sorry to be personal but I wonder which camp you're sitting in. That last post was unworthy, we all know you can do better than that!

Posted by: Ubique at July 10, 2003 04:26 AM

Ubique

Ruth Buzzi is(or was, not sure of her mortality status) a comedienne of an aggressively zany nature who became big in the 1960s.
She plays prominently, if you've ever seen any of them, in the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts, beating people up(in a comic way).
A friend of mine bought the collection off a TV infomercial a couple of years ago and I've seen one with her. She is funny.

Posted by: Seth at July 10, 2003 04:37 AM

Oh, and she's not known for winning any beauty contests.

Posted by: Seth at July 10, 2003 04:40 AM

Unlike our other Ruth, Bader-Ginsberg who is very much unfunny and still very much alive, but still the looks are not so much important.

I would also add we have a Sandra Day O'Connor who should retire before decease. Like, any day would be fine. But she doesn't have a Ruth anywhere near her name. Maybe we could hyphen one on, like mini Frankenstiens. Nothing like what she did to our constitution....

Baaah.

Posted by: devils chewtoy at July 10, 2003 08:54 AM

Anthony.....sometimes it is better to be silent and thought a fool...... than to speak up and remove all doubt.

Posted by: Jeff B at July 11, 2003 10:00 AM

Alan and Michelle

Sorry for the cross posts.

I cannot believe this. Please resolve this issue. This is totally unfortunate that someone can do this. Perhaps a system where you sign-up and sign-in, would prevent this from happening again.

Why would anyone do this? Is this an example of how "the end justifies the means?"

http://www.command-post.org/archives/007916.html

At least those people will do a better job without killing babies
Posted by: Anthony at July 10, 2003 01:50 AM

This was not me. A&M: do what you think is right. IMO, Not only should it be cleared that I didn't post this, but you should also name the one who did. They should also be banned from this sight.

Posted by: Anthony at July 12, 2003 09:54 AM

Anthony is right: he did not post that comment. I've deleted the comment, and banned the IP address of the person who made the post.

Apologies all around, I think ...
