U.S. Soldier Critically Wounded In Iraq
From Reuters: U.S. soldier was shot and critically wounded at Baghdad University on Sunday, witnesses and the U.S. military said. Update: Here's more from the Washington Post, less than an hour old. Posted By Alan at July 6, 2003 02:19 PM | TrackBackWeapons on a University Campus? Seems to me that it would be easy to set up a place at the entrance manned by Iraqi citizens whereby all visitors/students "checked" their weapons before entering and could retrieve them upon leaving. The "gun check guys" could be some of those Iraqis milling around on the streets and loitering on the corners. Let the Iraqis shoot their own instead of ours. You know, that is the biggest problem with career bureaucrats: They form up and "administrate", each establishing a territory in the scheme of things, and then the fun starts as they "earn" their large paychecks. And what the post above didn't say is that the poor kid was just standing in line to buy a soft drink. He was shot at point blank range in the head. The perp got away. WHY? This makes me angry. Angry at the bystanders who saw this happen and didn't get the perp. Posted by: Belle at July 6, 2003 11:35 PMMay he rest in peace. Posted by: Dave Dubé at July 7, 2003 08:40 AMRIP, brave soldier. This was one of the things Wolf said our kids over there would learn the hard way. Not their fault, it's just that some things don't register on people until they learn first hand. He showed me a post he had put up to a female soldier- Theresa?- in which he had cautioned combat readiness at all times. On another note, they have concluded Operation Sidewinder with a visible measure of success, but I think it was a mistake to end it. There should be continuous broadbased operations of the same kind continuing, unending, not giving these SOBs any respite. And hearts & minds policies, pc, etc shouldn't extend to putting our troops in extracurricular danger, they really need to search those mosques. We already know these "holy places" are being used for bomb making and as armories, and it needs to be explained to these objecting clerics that while we're sure they are honest, Allah fearing people, we are a "once bitten, twice shy" kind of people. You must ALWAYS be careful when your on a mission. Thats the first rule, and it's drilled into your head. Those boys are dealing with a very unstable people, and i know they can con you into feeling safe. Your NEVER safe in a country where you've just turfed a leader of killers. I'm sure this man knew this, and I'm sure he followed all the rules. We should see that they are violating the geneva convention, and rules of war. I wonder what they would say if coalition troops took off their uniforms, and started playing the same game as these terrorists. The thing is, soldiers of freedom are accountable for their actions, these back-wards terrorists aren't, but we have to give them rights regardless. personally, I say the hell with that, I'd be rounding up whole communities, deep searching every home, treat them with the strong arm and sheep that they are accustomed to being treated. this would save some of our boys lives Posted by: Bubba at July 7, 2003 05:47 PM"strong arm and like sheep like they are accustomed to being treated" Posted by: bubba at July 7, 2003 05:51 PMPost a comment
