Chalabi: Saddam seen north of Baghdad

The Associated Press reports:

Saddam Hussein has been seen north of Baghdad and is paying a bounty for every American soldier killed, the leader of an Iraqi exile group said Tuesday.

Saddam has $1.3 billion in cash taken from the Central Bank on March 18, is bent on revenge and believes he can "sit it out and get the Americans going," said Ahmed Chalabi, head of the Iraqi National Congress.

In Washington, Pentagon officials said Tuesday they had no information that Saddam was alive and offering bounties for killing U.S. troops.

Saddam also bought suicide vests for himself and his secretary on April 1 from the mukhabarat, the Iraqi secret police, he said.

The ousted Iraqi leader has been sighted on several recent occasions moving in an arc from Diyala, northeast of Baghdad, around the Tigris River toward his hometown of Tikrit and into the Dulaimi areas to the west of the Tigris, Chalabi said.

Is it appropriate to haggle when you buy a suicide vest?

Salman Rushdie has a room free...

I'd be plotting out his proposed movements against incidents of "attack," see if there's a correlation.

IOW, could the recent spat of attacks on US soldiers be attributed to someone wandering the countryside with a couple billion dollars and a grudge?

Last known 'sighting' of Saddam:
:o{(... Upper right corner of the Iraq page. Like Clint Eastwood in that blockbuster "Fistfull of Dinars". LMAO. ChalubiTubbi strikes again.

Since Rumsfeld hasn't mentioned him directly in a while, Chalabi hasn't been in the news much. Apparently suffering media withdrawal and needing some publicity.

For small values of "some" in this instance.

Hasn't it already been determined that the serial numbers on the metal boxes of hundred dollar bills found in Baghdad match the $1 billion Qusay withdrew from the Central Bank? And that only a couple hundred thousand are now missing? Is Chalabi referring to a $1 billion withdrawal that is different from Qusay's withdrawal or is Chalabi unaware that the money has been mostly recovered?

Must be a bugger to collect your reward when nobody seems to be able to find the guy.....

I'll bet, that if I offered a cold six-pack for any USA trooper who put a bullet in chabali's head I'd be found very quick

Bubba - How 'bout (how in hell do you spell that in Canuckspeak?) an order of partyballoons to go with that can o' Molson's? ;-)

Posted by: Dave Dubé at June 10, 2003 06:28 PM

I think it's spelled about, but if your from Newfoundland, you say "aboot".

I guess we'll have to talk to Anthony about those hydrogen filled party Balloons, That's if he took my advice and ordered a HOGAN™40 series hydrogen generator. But , you may have to order well in advance if he uses the bucket and chemical method.
WARNING! keep those hydrogen filled party balloons away from those sparkling birthday cake candles

Bubba - I'll add it to my shhhhhedual.

Ok Ok. How dumb are these people. You could make far more money from the americans if you served up Saddam's head to them.
Somebody give these bozo's an economics lesson they can understand.
Shoot American soldier = 1 camel
Shoot Saddam = many more camels.
Jeeze

Posted by: TerryP at June 10, 2003 06:47 PM

Let me refraze that.
Shoot American soldier = 1 camel from Saddam (but may end up dead for effort)
Shoot Saddam = may more camels (and you can keep all the money you find in his pockets)

Posted by: TerryP at June 10, 2003 06:51 PM

Well, its in Chalabi's interests to claim that Saddam is still alive, whether he is or not (I tend to lean to the latter conclusion).

Posted by: Jacques at June 10, 2003 07:48 PM

Jacques - I was goin' to ditto that, but others would probably call that condescendin'.

Posted by: Dave Dubé at June 10, 2003 08:10 PM

I can agree with that. Chabali uses that fear to rally support for himself. Especially because he's a shiite, and he can be the man to keep big bad saddam away if HE is elected.

Don't piss upwind. I larned that one when I was a whippersnapper. ;-)

Goes with the "don't eat yellow snow" rules, Dave.

seems those on the CP's longest string in history don't know the "don't piss into the wind" rules though, LOL
