Iraqi man ends 20 years in hiding

From the BBC:

After two decades in hiding, an Iraqi man has finally emerged back into the real world - squinting at the unaccustomed light.

Twenty-one years ago, Saddam Hussein placed an execution order on Jawad Amir for supporting an outspoken Shia cleric.

Mr Amir escaped - not into a far-off town or neighbouring country, but into a space sandwiched between two walls in his parents' home. He said for the whole of his hiding he never left that small, dark space and had only a tiny peephole to view the outside world.

Yes saddam was evil
But yet,
I don't believe a word of this.
I guess, if I was this story teller, and I was locked up in a tiny space for 20 years, I'd believe in my own shit too.......

SPEAKING of Salam Pax, if you go to his Raed blog you'll see he has pictures posted from "Basra" of a "British Army Patrol".

The only problem is that the picture is of a pair of Humvees. One would assume that if he was in Basra, he'd recognize a British Army Patrol when he saw one. Or if he were actually in Baghdad, he'd recognize a Humvee if he saw one.

Also note that supposedly he and his buddies are wandering around Iraq looking for evidence of war crimes and other nasty things that the coalition has done. They want to count up the bodies killed by GWB.

One wonders why they aren't out there auditing Hussein's score? I guess Pax isn't interested, being a Ba'athist and all...

One would assume that if he was in Basra, he'd recognize a British Army Patrol when he saw one.

Then one's assumption would most likely be wrong. Do you honestly expect an Iraqi citizen, a Baghdd resident, who has never seen either the American or British military to distinguish a British patrol from an American one based on the model truck they drive? Hell, most Americans can't tell a Toyota from a Cadillac without looking at the nameplate, how do you expect him to distinguish a HUMVEE from whatever the Brit's drive. To military buffs like me, or you perhaps, the difference is immediately apparent, but homosexual intellectual Baghdadite Salam is most likely not a military buff, especially not of Western militaries. The shots are not close-ups and you cannot see any flags or other distinguishing markings on those HUMVEEs.

well Byron, a Humvee is quite distinctive, but, I agree with your argument on the point of vehicle id to those unfamilliar . You would think however, that the American flag plus the american flag on every soldiers uniform would be a clue, even to the most stupid reporter. And, he even has pictures to prove how stupid he is on this mistake. Didn't he look at his own pictures?
It makes you wonder what else he didn't see right.

also, I don't think there are any brits in that area that I have heard of, but then, I've been having a bad day......

Posted by: Bubba at May 28, 2003 01:36 PM

Ok, am I missing something Byron? You said, "homosexual intellectual Baghdadite Salam" ? So Salam is a homosexual? Not that there is anything wrong with being homosexual, had to throw that PC comment in there of course!

Posted by: Texas Chick at May 28, 2003 04:04 PM

and Salam is supposed to have lived in the West for quite some time...

Not having extensively read Salam's blog, I'm just passing word of mouth, but it's said that he hinted at his homosexuality in said blog.

Considering the Military's relatively recent skirmishes with homosexuality, I think it's pretty relevant to point out that Salam hints at homosexuality when deciding whether he's a military buff or not.
