Replacing Baghdad Bob Proving More Difficult Than Expected
Iraqis Unhappy With U.S. Signals (washingtonpost.com) Putting Iraqi television back on the air has proved to be no simple matter, from the electrical outages to the makeshift staff assembled in the postwar chaos. Telephones do not work, and news is hard to confirm. And then there is the dispute over the editorial influence of U.S. occupation authorities.Posted By Robert Prather (The Mind Of Man) at May 26, 2003 07:30 AM | TrackBack I'll bet we got all kinds of Iraqis just beggin' to walk in the sandals of Asshat Sahaf...Go for it, I say. They could all use some of that humor. Seriously. With the tanks and the Bradleys in the background... I can almost smell the gunpowder. Sippin' tea at the local petrolplace, sharin' stories, addin' a little local color (plus all o' dem tourists in uniform)... WHAT A COUNTRY ! Maybe they should recruit "turnip" so he can rekindle saddams "baby parade" Posted by: Bubba at May 26, 2003 12:53 PMHand it over to Rupert Murdoch. He'll give them what they want. Posted by: TangoEchoXray at May 26, 2003 04:55 PMIt's the U.S. television consultants that worry me. The liberals badly lost the war, and we sure don't need them on Iraqi television trying to win the peace for the left. The message we need to get out pronto to the Iraqi people is about building a republic. Success could validate U.S. military action, create a prosperous, free-market, pro-American country in the region, and lead other downtrodden peoples to want to give it a try. U.S. media types know they must stop this. Put them in charge of "this child that is the Iraqi media" and they'll give birth to the NPR. I watched enough tape of Bill and Hillary during the Lewinski/Whitewater days. Them and Carville have prepped me perfectly for the position. I can prevaricate with the best of them now.
