Baghdadis Indifferent to End of U.N. Sanctions

From Reuters:

The fulfillment of a long-awaited Iraqi dream went almost unnoticed in Baghdad Friday, where many ordinary people said the lifting of U.N. sanctions made little difference in the absence of a homegrown government.

"We expected this to happen after the fall of Saddam Hussein," said Hameed Hashim, a teacher, adding gloomily that the U.S.-led occupation meant "Iraq is now the state number 51" of the United States.

"Till now there is no government, so the decision is useless," Hashim said. "But we hope that America and Britain will use the decision for the benefit of the Iraqi people."

"Nearly two months after the fall of Saddam Hussein, life is difficult in Iraq, a once prosperous nation brought low by years of war and international isolation." Reuters, get a Reality Check. IT WAS SADDAM, not 'war and isolation" unless you mean the isolationism of the other nations of the world and failure to go to war to rid the Iraqis of Saddam.

I'd imagine that by now the Reuters crew has built pipelines to disaffected groups and individuals, and can in minutes get a spectrum of anti-coalition quotes on any subject or event.

Reminds me of the "Million Mom March" against guns. It was sold as a bunch of concerned mothers banding together against guns, but close behind the scenes loomed the power structure of the Democratic Party. The chief organizer, it was later discovered, was a longtime personal friend of Hillary's. Just another day at work for the left.

After nearly 40 years of Ba'athist indoctrination/oppression, democracy is not something that sprouts overnight! More and more Iraqis are finding out in small ways that it really is their own country, but how to run it is not something they've had the luxury of considering.

Except, of course, for the little plotting groups who want to run another dictatorship.

Being the 51st state wouldn't be that bad... Being treated as a South American protectorate... Now that would be bad.

are there really 50 states in the "united states"?
there are some commonwealths, like Boston

Don't you remember the little incident down here several years back with the Freemen?

LMAO.

We need some expansion goin' down in the direction of the bow. HANG for a second here...

KARNAK says - ALBERTA.

The question is - Name the 51st State.

We now get one o' dem fancy 'little' maple leaves hangin' out there on the fringes of one of the stripes. One down. We're then headed in the starboard direction. You ain't next, but you're in line...
