Uday to Surrender?

Fox News (TV), quoting the Wall Street Journal, is reporting that Uday Hussein is negotiating a surrender.

UPDATE: The story is now on FOXNews.com, which you can read here ...

Saddam Hussein's son Uday is considering surrendering to U.S. forces, but so far has been reluctant to do so because of a tough negotiating posture by the U.S. government, according to a third party with knowledge of the discussions, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

U.S. officials in Washington had no comment, the paper said.

Uday Hussein, who is hiding in a Baghdad suburb, wants to know what the charges against him will be and the process for interrogation and custody, the source told the Journal.

U.S. officials don't seem especially interested in cutting a deal, because they assume Uday will be caught sooner or later, the source told the paper.

And if you have a subscription to WSJ.com, you can read their story here ...
Saddam Hussein is also alive and in suburban Baghdad, the person familiar with Uday's surrender discussions said he has been told by a Saddam relative. He added that the deposed leader is in questionable mental health. The U.S. government has asked intermediaries for help in finding him or negotiating a surrender, but this person knows of no progress.

This is one promise that should be broken a year or two from now once we have all the SOBs.

Uday and the rest of his shit should living in a constant fear of wondering if today was their last day.

Only deal he should expect is for the US to hold him in custody until the formation of the NEW iraqi goverment of the iraqi people who will try Uday and his father first in thier new courthouse. Barring that we should promise that we will feed him to a mound of army ants..

LMAO - I'm getting a picture here..."HEY, Uday, my worthless son. Go ask them if they're going to pull our fingernails out one at a time". "And by the way, how much life is left in these batteries?". LMAO

On another note - LMAO - mental state? He wasn't all that stable BEFORE we rolled into Baghdad. How would you feel, huddled in a corner somewhere watchin' a little 6inch B&W TV image of one of your icons getting beat on by a 12yr old kid with his left sandal? LMAO.

On another note - Naaaaaa.

I finally had some coffee. You go, RONIN! Maybe a little crowd discipline (I'm talking sandals, here, folks, not RPGs) on the steps of the courthouse? A little pre-trial tap or two, just to get them shaped up.

HERE COME DA JUDGE!

I just had another synapse fire off. Woke me right up.

DON! DON! Where's a good liberal when you need one?

Depends a lot on how you place the emphasis. The article seems to suggest that Uday (who is really into torture) is just not going to come in til he is assured that us infidels use techniques that he can respect.

He has undoubtedly heard of the "Barney" approach, and I am just not at all sure that he could develop a huge respect for it.

My first instinct was to hope that we just kill both father and son as quickly as possible.

My second instinct is that I hope we capture the bastards, and give them over to the Iraqi people to put on trial. That would be extra incentive to get the courts and legal system back up and running as effectively as possible, and would most likely provide better justice than the UN would, and would appear less partial than trial by US military.

Ahh, the poor pathetic little coward. Where's daddy now Uday? What's that? He's drooling in the corner? Oh, don't worry Uday, I'm sure that the "evil infidels" will cut a deal with you. Naturally!!

I think we should answer his request honestly.

"We are going to keep you as a prisoner of war wrt the Geneva Conventions until such time as the Iraqi Government is ready to try you for what will most likely be crimes against humanity, with the highest possible punishment being death. They might view it favorably if you surrendered rather than having to be caught, but we won't guarantee it. Have a nice day."

Tbox - Are you a SWAT Team negotiator? Just curious.

I'm hoping they put him a cell with a skipping, repeating CD of Barney's greatest hits.

Let's hope the U.S. doesn't even remotely consider some surrender agreement - I, of course, doubt they would. This guy needs to be captured and dealth with in the most serious way. Maybe some time in an iron maiden and then a stoning at the hands of the Iraqis are in order.

I'm a Software Engineer. It's a high-falutin word. I'd say I'm a programmer, but I haven't had to write my own code in years. I just tell others how to fix it when their code breaks, and design the occasional architecture.

For the record, TBox, so am I.

Tbox, Adam. LOGIC. It's in the logic.

If ever someone needed killin', it would be the Who's Sane(?) boys. I say let the locals dispense with their own brand of justice. Maybe that's what this big pussy is skeerd of. Worthless pile of organic matter.

Seems kind of premature to me. Sure, Uday's thinking about surrendering. He's also thinking fondly about the people he tortured and murdered. He's probably even thinking about how he can get laid. It'd be more newsworthy if he'd actually surrendered. I think WSJ and Fox were irresponsible to run a story like this.
