"Muhammad" did a lot more than the Reuters article says he did. (Could they be trying to push him down the memory hole?) If it's possible, we should declare him a citizen immediately if he wants to be. To help him establish himself, give him a job in the transition planning. A good job. I believe if it were publicized where he might go or do he would be welcome pretty much anywhere in the United States. It would also be less secure for him and his family. Personally i hope they put him in witness protection with a nice job, a new name, a two story two car garage house with two SuV's, citizenship and a bank account large enough to secure a good start in his new home. Posted by: Ronin at April 29, 2003 02:13 PMRoll out the red carpet for this guy and his wife. They did us a good turn, at considerable risk to themselves, and deserve the best in return. I hope that "Muhammad" and his wife become citizens - I would be honoured to call him a countryman. Posted by: aelfheld at April 29, 2003 02:30 PMAgreed. Only problem is, Iraq needs guys like this too. Posted by: Sam at April 29, 2003 02:46 PMThis guy's story shone out like a bright light in a wicked world. Truly noble and brave. And what a morale-boost he provided by essentially instigating the rescue ! Posted by: JohninLondon at April 29, 2003 03:19 PMYes. A cynical person could say that the guy certainly knew which side of the bread is buttered, but I am not a cynical person. He deserves an assylum and a good life regardless of his motives, though. Posted by: Alisa at April 29, 2003 04:11 PMhell! he can stay with me!!1 Posted by: mike lawson at April 29, 2003 05:16 PM""Muhammad" did a lot more than the Reuters article says he did" Hardly, the more you read about this story the more clear it becomes that the melodramatic and overstated first reports were largely bogus. That is not the point, giles. The point is we must reward anyone who aids American soldiers as lavishly as we can afford, so other people can see and perhaps be motivated to help our soldiers in the future. Granting him full citizenship (if he wants it) costs us nothing, but would be a great motivator for many people in other, less prosperous, nations to help our soldiers and/or citizens. In other words, we want the whole world to know: Help save an American, and we will set you, and your family, up for a good and prosperous life. Harm or murder an American, and we will hunt you down accross the globe and kill you. Posted by: Yanei Wu at April 29, 2003 08:56 PMCorrection: 'gile', not 'giles'. My deepest apologies. Posted by: Yanei Wu at April 29, 2003 09:07 PMYani you are wrong about the point. It is one thing to propaganidze in the moslem world it is another thing for our government to disinform our own people back home with a tv movie story that falsifies the facts. Posted by: Bailey at April 30, 2003 10:36 AMBailey....do you rain on everyone's parade? I would like for you to show us WHAT our gov't said about this case that you can show us is a lie? I think this is just one of the few stories that see the light of day, that show us what the TRUE Iraqi people are made of. They're human beings just like us. It's the ulterior motive groups that give them a bad name. Posted by: Jeff B at April 30, 2003 09:22 PMPost a comment
