Latest on Galloway

The Director of Public Prosecutions is considering prosecuting George Galloway for treachery under Section 1 of the 1934 Disaffection Act.

This latest twist comes as The Observer reveals details of a secret trip Galloway made to Morocco for the British-based Saudi dissident Saad al-Fagih, an Islamic fundamentalist who purchased a satellite phone used by al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Just out of curiosity. Would Portugal extradite Galloway to England if England requested it?

I find it peculiar that Mr. Galloway chooses to go to Portugal when so many serious accusations are being made.

If he's guilty, it could be staging for a quick getaway to Brazil, which opposed the Iraq war. Also, Portugal is close to North Africa, another set of possible final destinations. Portugal has a lot of small coastal villages, and there might be a fully-provisioned sailboat moored in one of them...

I, too, find it interesting that he's in Portugal. Very John Le Carre.

You mean they haven't arrested him, or at least suspended him from the house of commons yet?

If he does sail away on a yaght, he'll die of scurvy, Brits are famous for forgetting to pack the lemons......

Yep, Portugal is a formal extradition "partner" with the UK.

Didn't the Ritter person go to Portugal as well at the beginning of the war? Has he come back yet? I rather hope he doesn't.

It seems highly significant that Gorgeous George hasn't returned from Portugal yet, in spite of all the furore. He can obviously afford the very best legal advice - and he needs it.

When he was involved with Dundee City Council, he raised the PLO flag over the Town Hall, and had that great city "twinned" with a city/filthy PLO shanty-town in Gaza.

Suspension from the House of Commons would probably require proof that he had not properly declared his financial interests. Manwhile the Labour Party seems to be moving to expel him - he taints everyone he works with.

But there are still a lot of hard-left politicos who defend him. Hopefully the Galloway case will drag on and on, as a clear reminder of the twisted logic and warped purposes of many on the far left.
