NYT - Leading Iraqi Scientist Says He Lied to U.N. Inspectors
Judith Miller of the New York Times reports: Nissar Hindawi, a leading figure in Iraq's biological warfare program in the 1980's, says the stories and explanations he and other scientists told the United Nations about the extent of Iraq's efforts to produce poisons and germ weapons "were all lies." "There were orders to destroy it," Dr. Hindawi said during interviews conducted today and on Friday. "They destroyed some ? whether all or not, I can't say."Posted By Martin Devon at April 27, 2003 12:51 AM | TrackBack Lying to the UN about weapons? IRAQ? This is really old news--you can find out all about it, from the other end, on UNSCOM's website (I have no idea when it was last updated but I've been through it recently). We're now hearing from one of the people who tried to deceive UNSCOM. In this case, UNSCOM found out about it through a defector. In all, if I recall correctly, Iraq gave 3 or 4 Full, Final, and Complete Declarations of their BW program (8 or 10 for all of their CBN programs together) and I think this one they had to retract because of the defector was their third. Posted by: Gabriel Hanna at April 27, 2003 03:32 AMJudith Miller has kind of lost her credibilty. The last two finds she made a big deal about over the past week turned out to be false and if she is an expert she should have know they were in situations highly conducive to false positives. it is intersting that the Iraqi expert she is giving so much credence to is stating Iraq could never make dried anthrax, when Miller stated in her last book that Iraq procued dried anthrax. I don't know what "Gabriel" is blathering about, he clearly didn't even read this article. Post a comment
