Another Casualty of the War?

The civilian head of the United States army, Thomas White, has resigned.
No reason has been given for the departure of Mr White, whose official title was secretary of the army.
In the brief official announcement of Thomas White's resignation, the US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld thanked him for his service.
But it clearly has not been a happy relationship between the two men who have been at odds over Mr Rumsfeld's plans to transform the US military into a lighter, more flexible force.

Yuppers. Right. Casualty... Bloodless bloodletting. Maybe he got asked to quietly leave. I think flexible and light with the best technology tells the story. That was pretty obvious after Turkey turned chicken...

Actually, this has been stirring for a long time. Sec. White fought to keep Paladin, using strategic leaks and statements to Congress. If there's one thing the Bush Administration, and especially Sec. Rumsfeld, values it's loyalty. Sec. White tried to bypass the chain of command.

I'm surprised he's lasted this long. Methinks there was much jockeying behind the scenes. After the stellar performance of Special Forces without armor in Northern Iraq, I think Rumsfeld had enough ammunition to have White walk the plank.
