Kolbe Lays Blame For Postwar Chaos At Rumsfeld's Feet
From the Tucson Citizen: Republican congressman Jim Kolbe yesterday criticized the Bush administration for being ill-prepared to impose order following the liberation of Iraq.Posted By Newshound at April 22, 2003 10:45 AM | TrackBack Anyone know where I can get a job criticizing others ex post facto while either offering no solutions or offering them only with the benefit of hindsight? Congress? Okay. The media? That's true. Thanks. I'm going to look into those options. Posted by: ABC at April 22, 2003 10:50 AMJim Kolbe should STFU. If this were run like a congressional program you could add a year or two to the timeline, a couple hundred billion in pork (can you say Robert Byrd Baghdad Memorial Hospital?), and met half the goals Posted by: Frank G at April 22, 2003 10:53 AMAh, Congress - where people who've never won a war, never owned a business, never met a payroll, never managed a budget, etc. presume they have a moral platform to criticize those who do .... Such foolishness. Posted by: BradDad at April 22, 2003 10:54 AMWho the hell is Kolbe getting political advice from? Does he really think stabbing his party's President in the back in the media is going to help him with his consituencies. That said, there is a germ of truth, but it reflects poorly on State, rather than Defense. It is State's role to have a provisional government on tap to handle admininstration and internal civilian security, and State has screwed the pooch bigtime on that front. Not a word of criticism of them in the press, of course, not when you can kick Rumsfeld for for the failures of a whole nuther department he has no control over. Posted by: T. Hartin at April 22, 2003 11:41 AMThank God for an honest man to speak the truth to power. Go Kolbe! Posted by: Joe at April 22, 2003 11:48 AMJesus. Now the mythology that the looting started 'after the shooting stopped' has become accepted as fact. And, by the way, of course the military 'knew' the war would be wrapped up just exactly at the point it was. Yes, never mind all those roving bands of outsiders with their weapons and wet dreams of suicide, the marines were supposed to post people right at the front doors of every - every - building that was looted. God damn you people (on the left and the idiot who mouth the left's rhetoric) are go dumb you are evil. Maybe you're just evil. Either way more room in the Kingdom of God... Posted by: americanstreet at April 22, 2003 12:14 PMAnd Rumsfield is such a nice guy, too, ain't he? Posted by: Bubba at April 22, 2003 12:21 PMAnd Rumsfield is such a nice guy, too, ain't he? Posted by: Bubba at April 22, 2003 12:21 PMWhen does the season open on congress-critters? I've just got to get a license. This sort of ignorant, back-stabbing, self-aggrandising commentary is what has torpedoed the Republicans more than any action from the Democrats. Talk about blue-on-blue. Yep.... Posted by: bubba at April 22, 2003 12:38 PMhow old are you people doing the posting?. the reason i ask is DID IT TAKE YOU THIS LONG TO FIGURE OUT POLITICIANS HAVE NO MORALS?. Posted by: aby normal at April 22, 2003 12:40 PMThey got 'em, they just ain't no good. Posted by: bubba at April 22, 2003 12:45 PMIs 'is part of Rumsfield's secret plan; like when them boys run out of food an' ammo? Posted by: Bubba at April 22, 2003 01:28 PMHi, abby. i am six yeers old and i wonted to ask u a kwestion. Yew rote "politicians have no morals" and i wus wundering how old I hav to bee to gain yor wisdom. My teecher told mee that there are 535 congresspersons and I want to get to no them all as well as yew do. Well, mabee not sinec nopt one of them has any morales. Thank yo, Abbe. Posted by: ABC at April 22, 2003 02:58 PMCongress isnt "evil" or bad etc..etc... All this thinking is necessary in a Republican Democracy...obvious it should be anyway As far as postwar chaos goes, time will tell but the U.S., or atleast the Bush Admin made the decision to do this last year so the country is committed whether or not they want it. Also, Congress shot themselves in the foot on this one by giving Bush the power to do all this in the first place so part of this blame lies within their own house. Posted by: Mike at April 22, 2003 02:59 PMThe congresscritter is blowing smoke, the looting going on ow is less than what occurs during riots here in the US. And the hospital-museum looting largely occurred while we were still fighting our way into Baghdad. Kolbe supported the President in going to war with Iraq, and he is a Vietnam War vet. I too supported the President's decision to go to war. Like Kobe, I strongly supported the war to liberate Iraq, but I do not buy Rumsfeld's lame excuses about the our inadequate protection of Bagdad. The looting should have been anticipated, and we should have been ready. We were not. The fault lies not with the brave men and women of our armed forces fighting this war, but with the DoD leadership. Posted by: CAB at April 22, 2003 04:59 PMI am laughing at all the criticism of Kolbe. he has a conservative combat verteran involoved in defense issue for his whole life. We know recommendations to protect the museums were ignored. He hit it dead on. Bush has my full support but Rumsfeld let us down and did so badly. Posted by: Dinton at April 23, 2003 06:51 AM"Does he really think stabbing his party's President in the back in the media is going to help him with his consituencies." If I were his constituent I would be rather impressed by his honesty. Post a comment
