Go Ahead : That's your right, bought and paid for by others.
Personally, anything that releases Toddlers from Dungeons qualifies as "Just" in my book. Not in yours.

I am in Arizona at the moment, where the Governor took the brave step (no pun intended) of renaming Phoenix's 2nd most famous mountain from Squaw Peak to Piestewa Peak in honor and memory of our first native american female soldier to fall in action.

This has raised a big political ruckess, and to my ears, the name Piestawa Peak doesn't have the ring to it that Squaw Peak does. But I definitely agree with the decision. By the way, it's a wonderful hike to the top, 1200 feet and a gorgeous view, especially if there's a wonderful Arizona electrical storm hitting Camelback, South Mountain or the City.

Squaw Peak is going to be Squaw Peak no matter what Politically Appropriate politician says otherwise. Of course the word "Squaw" is offensive to Indians, so this guy is just unburdening himself of a problem anyway. If anything, they should call it Tourist Peak, because of all the dumb people climbing up and down it.

Jerry & AZ : Re : Mountain re-naming; My own views are available here. Politicians will do what politicians will do, but there are 2 more important things (hint, hint), though they're not as big as mountains. One is 3, the other 4 (HINT! HINT!!)

BTW I've always wanted to go to Arizona for a visit. I'm told it's a bit like parts of Australia, but cooler and wetter. Nice Geology though - makes a change from a thousand miles of not-very-much. Cute wildlife too - snakes that actually give you audible warning before attacking (sporting of 'em). Lizards (gila monsters?) that may bite your toes off, but won't run up your body and rip your face off. Unlike some of ours.

I think AZ mispelled Ass. If he thinks that it's tourists walking up 1200 feet of steep shale in 110 degree weather, it reveals him for a McDonald's Junkie.

Who walks up Piestewa Peak on almost daily basis? Sandra Day O'Connor's son for one. Lot's of inshape zonies for another.

Alan, do visit Arizona. I'm actually a Californian, but have been coming to Arizona on work for 18 years now. It's a beautiful, remarkable state, filled, unfortunately, with a sh*tload of AZhats. But check out Arizona Highways, a highway magazine that reveals the Arizona beauty.

You're pretty damn funny too, colder and wetter. "That's not a knife... This is a knife." Farking Aussies. The snakes that give you warning, don't give you much warning. I was walking down Camelback one moonless night and heard the rattle and had no idea where the varmint was. Instead of pulling out my six shooter and letting lead fly to the sound, I just ran. Ran and ran and ran. Not really a good idea on the north side of Camelback where there are sheer cliffs, but it seemed a good idea at the time.

And I didn't have my knife with me.
