Brazilian diplomat still loyal to Saddam

While even the even the Iraqi mission to the U.N. in New York has taken down Saddam's portrait, Reuters reports that a diplomat in Brazil is not yet ready to do so:

The refusal by Iraq's charge d'affaires to Brazil to take down the picture of Saddam Hussein hanging in his living room is just a small part of his surreal existence these days.

Since his last contact with Baghdad two weeks ago, when he was told "try to be patient, try to be brave," the life of Jarallah Alobaidy has been a mixture of confusion and disbelief as he heads Iraq's mission with nothing real to do.
He is angry at looting back home, afraid of clashes between Iraq's numerous religious groups, says Saddam "is finished" and is determined to keep the flag flying at his mission even if he hasn't been paid for six months.

But the 54-year-old Iraqi diplomat, who served Saddam's government since 1976 on a career that took him to Geneva, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Brazil, will not take down Saddam's portrait in his large mansion in Brasilia.

"His future (Saddam's) is still vague, nobody knows whether he is alive or dead, whether he is in or out," Alobaidy told Reuters on Thursday. "Until now I do not know who is the president of Iraq, why should I change it?"

Perhaps it is the shake-up of Alobaidy's safe world as a diplomat for Saddam's government that makes him cling to the picture. For, even if the confusing images of events back home only flicker across Alobaidy's television, some of Baghdad's chaos has descended on his mission as well.

The sun, surf, top flight soccer games, and beautiful women are a small comfort to this gentleman who is living rent free while he waits for his beloved leader to present himself back in the hellhole of the Middle East.

With Brazil selling like 13% of Saddam's weapons to him, this diplomat is probably still getting invited to loads of wank dinner parties as well.

Diplomacy--what a racket!

This is kinda like those Japanese soldiers after WWII hiding out in caves and waiting for more war poop to hit their fan.

That diplotwit needs to get a real job.
