Why are we going easy on Tikrit? Only Ba'ath party members live there. They are criminals and bigots of the worst order. It is their known 'crown city' and headquarters. The Ba'ath party is the same as the Nazi's in good old WWII, and for decades as a group have been completely responsible for the Hussein regime's success.
Other Iraqis would totally rejoice if we were to wipe the city off the face of the earth. We should get on with that task. In that part of the world it would be recognized far and wide as the proper response from a just but charitable liberator.

Methinks the Baathist thugs have already run for their lives and left behind people that were coerced to fight, hence the ceasefire talks.

Negotiating a cease-fire? Forget it.

I figured the only reason we were saving Tikrit, was for a 'disgusting display of power',maybe a little 'shock and pleasure'. I mean that in a 'good' way. Like the 'hiway of death', which I think was the ultimate of all messages. Anyone that lives a good lifestyle in Tikrit, had to be a pal of Sadam. Let's take a little time, set up the cameras, and show the world what we mean by, "those that assist terrorists......"
