France won't extradite people who may face death. I really hope France doesn't give them amnesty, though. You think all the prewar stuff was bad for relations.

Posted by: dave at April 13, 2003 04:11 PM

Why not? I wouldn't be suprised if a whole lot of Saddam's cronies try to go to France. They saw the Iraqi news. They heard every day how France was supporting Saddam. From their point of view, it's the safest place. Plus, they have all those contacts there.

Asylum in France? Holy cow, that'll just do wonders for Franco-American relations!

Where should we focus our attentions next in the WoT: Damascus, Tehran, or Paris?

Not to mention that international court for war criminals the E.U. has been pushing. If the Iraqi regime doesn't merit prosecution...

If France wants a diplomatic Cold War with the only superpower, then they'd better hope they can do a better job picking horses in the future than they did during the recent war.

As Kissinger dryly put it, "If this keeps up, we will end up in a 19th century balance of power game in which it is by no means clear that we will lose."

France doesn't have enough problems?

Posted by: Carol Herman at April 13, 2003 04:56 PM

Sorry to take issue with Dave, but France did recently extradite a guy who was wanted for murder in Philadelphia and who faces the death penalty.

Posted by: Connecticut Yankee at April 13, 2003 05:08 PM

Personally, I'll be unhappy if any of them get asylum here... let's see what actually happens.

Posted by: General Patton, in France at April 13, 2003 05:27 PM

Ira Einhorn did not face the death penalty, Pennsylvania changed a couple of laws specifically to encourage France to extradite him back (the French police did characterize him as a "murderer" when they spoke to his wife).

If France is that stupid, I'll be willing to wager that the MOssad is going to be busy for the next few years.

Posted by: Andrew at April 13, 2003 05:49 PM

Oh man PLEASE let this be true, and they'd be stupid enough to try to get asylum in France. All we have to do is use really stern words or call their names and France will surrender half the country just so we'll leave them alone. :-D

General Patton

You have the distinction of being a decent kind of Frenchie.

Too rare these days. Sadly. You bring a voice of reason, often wrong to many - but you are debating the issues.

But, dear heart, it is highly likely that your France will be host to many of these Saddamite murderers. They know they are not safe in Syria. They are high-rollers, very rich, and they see France as a "friendly" place.

Those vermin are coming your way.

The whole wide world - which is NOT centred on Paris - will wait to see how your President deals with them.

Do you want them to come to France ?

The French regime apparently forgets just what a sizeable force we have based next door in Germany.

Liberate France!

Or at least return Normandy, Brittany, Poitiers and Anjou to Great Britain. ;-)

I suppose we could wait for St. Crispian's Day for the the French surrender, um, I mean our campaign.

If this SPECULATION were to come true, it would be the best thing that could happen. The PEOPLE of France (not their corrupt gov't or media), whom I believe are our friends, will have had enough. Probably enough to change the future of France.....or WE will.

Just curious, but, is the Mirror anything more than a P---- O- Shit tabloid??? Aren't they the ones that hired the biggest loser in the WORLD, Peter Arnett, when he had no place to go???????

Posted by: Jeff B at April 13, 2003 07:46 PM

In the middle of this Blair wants to go to the Euro? And, Bill Clinton wants Kofi's chair at the UN? The madness isn't over. But Bush is in top form.

As to those in Syria, it's gonna be a long way home for them wherever they go.

There's alays the Mossad way. And, I'm not so sure they've taken enough money to travel well. What's the joy the day after they say think think they're safe? They're safe if Assad is getting calls from Bush THIS EARLY?

Posted by: Carol Herman at April 14, 2003 01:00 AM

Its Canada that doesn't export wanted criminals if they might be executed.

Personally, I say that as long as there is a democracy in place... Send the shit out.

Not my problem! and don't waste my tax dollars.
