U-S Navy soon to reduce its presence in Persian Gulf area

From WMC-TV / AP:

The U-S naval presence in the Persian Gulf may soon be reduced -- now that the air war over Iraq is winding down.

The commander of all naval forces in the Iraq war says two of the three aircraft carrier battle groups in the Gulf could be sent home shortly.

Hope this will shut up those who have been saying we intend to invade Iran and Syria, but somehow I don't think it will.

Good. Some of the carrier group have been at sea for 9/10 months. They really need to return to home port for maintainence & rest.

The Lincoln's already returning home; it's been out the longest, having been turned around on its way home and sent back to the Gulf.

Kitty Hawk is going to its home port in Yokosuka.

Constellation will be stopping by Japan, likely, on its way home to San Diego. This may well be the Constellation's last tour; it's due to be decommissioned after 42 years of service, as soon as the USS Ronald Reagan* passes sea trials.

So salute the "Connie" on her way home.

* Whatever one thinks of the man -- I think it's tacky to name stuff after a living person.
