Jordanian government denies plans to restart Kirkuk-Haifa oil pipeline

Jordan Times:

AMMAN (JT) — The government categorically denied on Wednesday a news report claiming that officials from Jordan and Israel will meet to discuss the possibility of restarting an old oil pipeline linking oil-rich Iraq with the Israeli port of Haifa on the Mediterranean via Jordan.

Minister of State for Political Affairs and Minister of Information Mohammad Adwan was quoted by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, as saying the report was “fabricated.”

Too bad, it would have been a real breakthrough.

I'd love to see them try to pump the oil through Lebanese Hizbollah territory instead of Israeli territory. They'll spring more leaks than Luciano Pavorati sleeping on a bed of nails after drinking a keg of beer.

They'd love to send it south, but that would go to the robber-barons of Saudi Arabia or... wait... more Jews at Eliat. Oh, boo-hoo, anti-Semites of Jordan. YOU LOSE! ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more truth to the story you linked yesterday, ls, than to this one. Remember Jordan has a large Palestinian population and the situations on its West and East may be a little too unstable for it to want this to be made public. Yet.

Denying a meeting isn't exactly the same as denying that the Jordanians are willing to talk about the pipeline. If they can restart the line, you can bet they won't turn it on out of the goodness of their heart. They'll want something in exchange from Israel.

I think we've learned this week the value of any statements by an Arab Minister of Information.

If they are not restarting this stretch of pipeline from Kirkuk then why is my much better half over in Iraq checking the integrity of the compression stations and pipeline?
