Wired: IQ Test for Rebuilding Iraqi Net
From Wired.com: Even before Saddam Hussein's regime started losing its grip, a London ISP began rallying momentum for a plan to bring pervasive and unfettered Internet access to post-war Iraq. The grassroots proposal seeks to fund the reconstruction of Iraq's Net infrastructure by selling Internet addresses ending in .iq -- the country-code suffix in Iraq's domain name. Due to trade sanctions and other issues, no dot-iq domains are currently active. But the charity project's sponsors, which include British ISP Onega, say the domains -- with the country-code suffix that connotes high intelligence -- could be auctioned off to worldwide Internet users for a hefty sum.Posted By bryan at April 10, 2003 09:33 AM | TrackBack Dibs on leftieshavealow.iq! Posted by: apotheosis at April 10, 2003 09:42 AMDamn, they want to steal their suffix ! make some .profiteers for them Posted by: kyotodioxide at April 10, 2003 09:46 AMVery clever, apotheosis. I even had to think about that for a moment! hehe Posted by: aj at April 10, 2003 10:14 AMThe .iq domain has a registrar -- though it may be subject to change. The Register had a pretty detailed article on the situation: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/30170.html Didn't take 24 hrs for the carpetbaggers to begin hawking snake oil and bogus business scams.
