Report: Russian diplomats were taking Iraqi secret files
Russia Journal Daily » A Russian diplomatic convoy that came under fire as it evacuated Baghdad might have been carrying secret Iraqi files that U.S. intelligence officers wanted to seize. Posted By Oskar van Rijswijk at April 9, 2003 08:48 AM | TrackBackComments
Shocked!! Posted by: tenbase at April 9, 2003 08:50 AMThis is a Russian report. The idea was to try and indicate we were targetting the Russians, not that they had anything to hide. It's BS. Posted by: phred at April 9, 2003 08:53 AMThis is the most plausible reason that I've heard for the attack. It could be pure conspiratorial crap but I could probably be pursuaded to believe it too. I would say that if the Russians did have files then I'm all for the targeting of the convey. It may not be legal to target them but I certainly would have. What I don't believe is the notion that the operation would have failed. In my opinion if the forces did target the convoy then they got what they wanted.
