As an old Marine whose standard issue weapon was a slingshot and bag of rocks...I want to take time to thank you for your reporting and courage under fire. It is especially appreciated when you share your air time with Marines around you. It is obvious that they are doing the job they were trained to do. We back here respect the sacrifices they/you are making and it will never be forgotten.

Watch your "six" and our prayers are with you...the Marines and all the other troops taking care of business.

If there is a vote to make you an Honorary Marine...you have my vote.

Knowing a little bit about what our Marines are doing, especially the good looking one :), Lcpl Cook, (Brandt), helps the gratitude grow deeper, the love get stronger, and the knowledge overflow. If you have another chance, pls let Lcpl Cook know that I love him and that everyone back hm is so in awe with his courage. I know the words are simple but you cannot place a value on gratitude, especially for the men who risk their life to protect our very own freedom (that includes all the reporters too). Dear Rick,

Thank you very much for all the hard and fine work you are doing. If it wasn't for you and other reporters, like you, we wouldn't be able to see what is really going on in Iraq. Thank you for your reports, for they kept us sane at times when our minds imagined the worst.

My brother, LCpl Dmitry Polozov, is also serving with 2/23, Echo Company, 3rd Platoon. And we wanted to let him know how PROUD his family is of what he and his fellow Marines are doing. We LOVE him very much and are waiting, so very patiently, for him to come home safely.

Please let our troops know that the support for all their efforts and hard work is growing. I hear of the new Support Rallies, at least here, in California, every week. Churches are praying for their safety; Corporations have "Support Our Troops: Red,White & Blue (clothing)" Fridays; People are proudly posting US Flags and yellow ribbons everywhere I look.

Once again, thank you Rick, for doing such a great job and for keeping us informed about the reality! May God Bless You and bring you, along with ALL of our Troops, home safely!

With all the Love and Respect,
Anastasia Pishchenko--a proud sister of LCpl Polozov (2/23, Echo Co, 3rd Platton.)

Hey Rick, getting any sleep now? hOW'S THE FOOD? tell Lance Corpl. You'll note a comment above from Nicole King, the girlfriend of Lcpl Brandt Cook, E/2-23. Since the two are very much in love, perhaps we could arrange a videophone proposal from Lcpl Cook some evening. I'm the pastor of both and will marry them sometime in the future. I'm also an Army officer wishing the Marines the best in the tough and dangerous job they are doing.

Just to see the live pictures of family member is comforting to everyone that has a family member in Iraq. My son is LCPL Bryan Martuscello of H &S Company. You just might want to meet him, if you guys ever receive any packages because I sent him a five gal Sun Shower! I know that you guys have not had a bath in a long time! Hey Rick -

We all know that our brother-in-law, Scott 'doc' Hellesto is going to take the credit for Echo Company, of the 2/23, in finding that mobile bio-lab. :) Being a corpsman and all, I am sure he is taking good care of the men he is with there in Iraq. My wife and I wish him and the rest of the Marines who are there god speed and a safe return. He has got to come back, there are three wonderful kids waiting for his return as long with his wife, my sister, and the rest of the family. You all got our support and prayers

Also, thanks Rick for hooking up with the 2/23. It gives us an idea where they are at now.

Hello Rick;

This is Ken Brandt Sr. proud dad of LCPL Brandt, Ken, USMC, and wanted to thank you for the excellent work you've doing interviewing our finest. I have seen (and taped) almost every interview aired from Marines belonging to the 2/23, but unfortunately I have not been able to see my son in any of these interviews. He is part of E Co. (Echo Company) and based on your last reports, they are at the United Nations Headquarters. I don't know how far the UN HQ is from where you are located, but if it isn't too much trouble, would you be so kind and try to do a quick one-on-one with him? This would make myself anf my family so happy that we'd be willing to invite you and Shep for steaks. I heard you and Shep talking about Shawn (Hannity) buying steaks for everybody, but that's OK; I'll pay for yours and Shep's. Hey, what the heck, I'll even pay for Hannity's, but Colmes will have to pay for his if he wants to come. If you do see my son, please tell him that I love him and miss him a whole lot. I and hundreds of people are praying to the Good Lord for his safe return and feel very proud for the outstanding work he and his buddies are doing, including you. I look forward to having the opportunity of seeing you and my son during the next round of interviews from Baghdad.

Thank you very much and may God bless you and your family,

Ken

Rick, thanks for your timely reports, I glue myself to the news to get your and Ollie's reports. Our son, Sgt. Valden Smith, of ECHO Co. called us at 6 AM today, Sat. 12th. He said he had reservations about gettting into this war, but none now. People keep coming up to him saying, "thank you, thank you!", what can I get for you? Finally he asked for some bread and in a few minutes had fresh bread from a grateful Iraqi. Our yellow ribbons are hanging everywhere for him and the troops. The anti-war activists are making fool of themselves with their violence. America supports the troops! Tell him hellow if you get a chance.

With your interviews of the 2nd Batt. 23rd Marines, a lot of family & friends were able to catch up with their service men & women who had up till that time not been heard from much.
Moving amongst the different companies has been greatly appreciated.
If you see our nephew LCpl Daniel Burke, say "HOWDY' from his aunt & uncle.....you will know him....that good looking marine with the great big smile.
God speed to you and the marines.

Thanks for the great coverage of the 2/23. How about a little more air time for H&S Co.? Lcpl Bryan Martuscello is my handsome, blue eyed son! Please pass along two messages: Tell my son he is loved and missed! - and let the commander of H&S Co. know that he will receive several boxes from the kids at Canyon Springs School for the Co. and some CDs from Capital Records as well!

Rick,
You answered my prayers when you interviewed my boyfriend Cpl. Brian Johnson, of Echo Co. 2/23, early Wednesday morning...and for that I thank you!(He was the one who hit on Laurie Dhue :-)). If you have the opportunity, would you mind reassuring Brian (and the rest of the guys) of the love, support and prayers that are being sent from home? And if you get the chance, just give him a BIG hug for me! It's important that he knows that we are ALL standing behind him and believe in what they are doing. God Bless them all and bring them home safe. A very proud girlfriend...

I am a Keyvolunteer for my husband's platoon, the families of Echo co. 2/23 1st platoon. I keep in touch with them everyday, please let the marines know that their families are doing well and that they are in my good hands. Also, I was so excited to hear my husband, Sgt. He will be so happy to hear that we are going to have a BOY! I am taking good care of him and and hoping that I don't have to go through this alone anymore...please relay the message to him that I love him and will be waiting for him with open arms when he gets home.

The current situation in which our fighting men and women lay their lives on the line and are not provided with critically needed support from home is unacceptable and intolerable.

Recently I received a mail from the father of a United States Marine (Art Carranza Sr.) detailing his concern and frustrations regarding the Marine’s inability to perform the simple task of delivering the United States mail to our soldiers in Iraq.

We all know the hell our men and women are being subjected to in the war zone of Iraq. Our men and women, our friends, our CHILDREN are sacrificing and risking their lives on a daily basis so that WE have the freedom to sit in front of our computers and write letters like this.

Brave as they are, they NEED our love and support. Articles in the newspapers and interviews from the war zones are distressing. Our troops are being demoralized by their perception that a large number of Americans are protesting our presence in Iraq. Many have expressed concerns that they will be subjected to the selfish and damaging treatment that our Viet Nam vets received upon their return to the US after THEIR sacrifice.

We see the concern in their eyes and hear the pain in their voices when, on national television, they ask why they have not heard from their family’s back home.

Death, destruction, pestilence, hunger, is enough for our men and women to worry about without having to worry about their families, their CHILDREN’s safety and security back home. They need to focus on their job, their objectives, staying alive, and NOT have to worry about THEIR children and families back home!

Corporal Artemio Carranza is one of the bravest, most courageous Marines we have fighting for us over in Iraq. I know him better than many of his family members because he spent almost everyday for four years in my classroom. I watched him grow from a gangling freshman in high school to a young man who, as a senior, performed and exemplary job of leading and directing an entire Police and Fire Academy training camp of over 80 students AND adults 300 miles from home.

He moved into adulthood as one of the finest young men I have ever known.

Now, as a single father risking his life for his country and for the oppressed and often slaughtered Iraqis, he hasn’t received any contact from his daughter or his father and family since the day he left the United States.

I implore you to immediately make the support of our United Sates Marines and their contact with their family through the mail your top priority. Our Marines MUST know that their families are safe and that they are completely supported now and they will be when they return.

Please forward this letter to whoever needs to receive this in order to expedite the support our troops who are in critical need of our support and the security in knowing their children and families are safe.

Dear Rick,

Thank you so much for reporting correct information of our men in the 2/23. My boyfriend Alberto Kralj is over there with you in Echo co. He's a Cpl. and is really quite if he doesn't know you so I think that's why you haven't interviewed him on t.v. If you could please track him down and interview him on t.v so that I may see him and see that he is fine would be really great. Also if you could tell him that I love him and that our familes are praying for him right along all the other "smart americans". Please also let him know I miss him very much and can't wait for him to come home.

Thank you and hope all is well,
Danielle

Hello there Rick, again,
Well, the reason for my second message to you is for one extra special favor. My husband Sgt. Hellman, (as you already know) has a very close friend out there fighting with him. His name is Sgt. Frasier, he is with 2/23, 3rd Platoon. He doesn't have family. He only has a daughter. I am sure that he has yet to receive anything by mail or packages. (except by us) so, if you would, please send him my hello and best wishes, and that when he gets home, he will be enjoying pizza and starbuck's/beer with my husband, as well as a barbeque for all the other guys in the platoon. tell him that regardless of his situation, he is a part of our growing family, and that I choose him (if it is alright with my husband) that when he gets home, he will be a Godfather to our July arrival! Please inform him, that will help him come home to us. Thank you Rich for doing an outstanding job out there with our Marines, as a MAN!

Dear Rick,
Thank you so much for keeping us linked with our Marines. There are no words to describe the comfort it has given me to have a connection with my husband through you and Fox News. My husband is Clp. Joseph Duncan with Echo Company 2/23. I would so appreciate it if you could get a message to him, I know you are busy. Could you please let him know that I had the sonogram today and it looks like our baby, due in July, is a little girl,Yeah!! Please tell him that I love and miss him terrible, and can't wait for his safe return home. You are all in my prayers, and we are all so very proud of all of you. Thanks so much!

Hello Rick:

You are awesome! Thank you for joining our men of 2/23 on the battlefield. Last Tuesday 4/8/03 you interviewed my husband Cpl Rick Hudson of Echo Company while you were walking through the streets of Baghdad. Though the connection was bad, I was so very blessed to hear his voice for a few brief moments. Tell the boys that we are so very proud of them. They are making history, and they truly are America's Heroes. We will forever treasure the footage you have provided in this war and one day share it with our children and our grandchildren. Thank you for your sacrifices. God Bless You and your family!

I know you're inundated with requests, but if you run across Scott Hellesto of the 2/23 Marines tell him that he is in our hearts and prayers. We're VERY proud of him and we can't wait for his (and everyone else's) safe return.

Dear Rick Levinthal, I have written to you before for a message from my son Nathan Coker. I am writing as I was reading one of the letters sent to you. I will start writing to Sgt. Frasier. He may be getting mail, but as a single parent with a daughter far away it's got to be very hard for him. I will ship a box to him in the next few days. I'm not even certain my son has received any mail yet and it's been almost a month. I just shipped 7 boxes from a party had for Nate's unit. You see, in the Marines, as well as other military units, we are one big family. Please tell Sgt. Frasier, 2/23 3rd PLT that we care for him and his huge sacrifices that he has made for his country. When he comes home there will be lots of people to wish him well. I hope that the unit comes home together, as they did not all travel together (some by ship, some air). Tell him that he is in my families prayers. Bless your work with our men and women. Jan Coker
Cpl. Nathan Coker 2/23 CAAT PLT mom & Semper Fidelis! If you see Nathan Coker (he may be in Tikrit) tell him his family loves & misses him!

Hi Rick:

We can't thank you enough for the excellent coverage on 2/23rd Marines. We watch you religously just hoping to get a glance at LCPL Leopoldo Ortiz. Would you please tell him to stop being so camera shy!! We're just itching to see him!Last week he sustained some injuries in Baghdad. He is currently in Kuwait City recovering and anxiously awaiting to rejoin his platoon. Yeah, that's Leo for ya. If you happen to see him, please let him know that we're very proud of him, that we love him, and that we're awaiting his safe return home.

Hey Rick!
Here's an intersting one for ya. Would you be so kind as to relay a little message to my brother and to my boyfriend (both in 2/23rd!). I actually met my boyfriend through my big bro, they just happen to best friends. Heh heh, thanks Leo! Anyway, let's get down to the knitty gritty. Firstly, I'd like to give all my love to my big bro, LCPL Leo Ortiz. Leo, you are a living legend (as Miri so nicely put it)! Hurry up and come home so we can start building the family empire . . . the Kennedy's ain't got nothing on us! Second, I'd like to send my love to LCPL Andre (he goes by Danny) Samayoa. Danny, keep on trecking. You're unstoppable baby just believe in yourself! And to all the men of 2/23rd, we're all very proud of you. Please rememeber, you're always in our hearts.
Rick, you're the man! Be safe out there and don't worry, you're in great hands!

Thanks for keeping Deborah Carranza and her family and son Corporal Carranza (echo company) in touch with one another...Even though it's only pictures and an interview you just don't know how much this means to families to see their loved ones if only for a second....

Rick,
Thank You for all the work you do. You are the only reporter i see on t.v. that tells us the news we want to hear to ease our concerns. and your a genuine person with a GREAT attitude. You speak to us rather than report. You have become one of our family members in the last months. If you could send a message to my awsome Twin brother LCPL Mike Miller 2/23 Echo CO. Tell him his whole family loves him and were praying for him as well as all the brave troops over fighting for our country. . God Bless.

Thank you so very much for making it possible for those of us back home to see and know some of the details of combat. It makes watching God answer specific prayers for the provision and safety and military success of you all, our men, very exciting. If you meet Lcpl Brandt Cook E/2-23, tell him I love him and miss him. I have known Brandt since he was a little boy, and I am also the aunt of his girlfriend, Nicole King. It would be the perfect proposal to a perfect love story if, as suggessted by Maj. Bill Puryear, he was able to "pop the question" in one of your interviews. These two young people are very special to me. Let the marines know how appreciated they are!

Rick, are you still hanging in there with 2/23? I haven't seen you for a few days on FOX News. If you see my son LCPL Adam Fraser (he's with Echo Co. 2/23) tell him we love him and his wife, who's expecting in a few weeks, is doing just fine. Thanks for all your hard work Rick and for keeping us informed.

Posted by: Judith Fraser at April 21, 2003 01:05 PM

Rick,

Even before you joined the 2/23 I thought you were doing an outstanding job on bring the details of war to us back in the U.S. With your annexation to the 2/23, my opinion of your job has become biased, but I still think you are by far one of the best war correspndents out there. My brother is LCPL Alvaro Valencia. If you know him or see him, could you tell him his brother Carlos says "HI!"?

Thanks.

Hi Rick,
Yes, this is my second message. Again thank you for all your dedication to this country and our troops. Haven't seen you or ECHO Co for a few days on Fox. Praying all is well and safe for all of you. If you come across Scott (Doc) Hellesto, tell him Mom misses his phone calls and funny antics. Hope the package I sent isn't a complete "lab experiment". Hope to see you back on Fox soon.
Love and prayers to all of you.
