Iraqis launch urban fightback
Reuters >> - Iraqi snipers crouched behind bridges and artillery fire rang out from almost every direction as Iraqi forces defended Baghdad against U.S. troops who had thrust into the heart of the city. The urban warfare that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein promised the invading forces finally began as dozens of U.S. tanks rumbled into the city of five million people and entered two presidential compounds on the west bank of the Tigris on Monday. Reuters, as usual, is swallowing whole the Iraqi delusions. They've been insisting for days now that US forces will be drawn into an impossible position in Baghdad. And of course they're not reporting the "uprisings" Fox has noted. With the pace of news, I expect this latest Reuters lie will be exposed in mere hours. Posted by: Robert Speirs at April 7, 2003 01:03 PMI am watching Fox right now. They have seriously downgraded the "uprising" story. being first with an incorrect story is not something to be proud of. they are quoting a US Army Colonel: Those damn pink-o commies at Reuters!! We all know that fox news is totally honest and devoid of propaganda. Not every Iraqi will be happy with American occupation, some are bound to fight back. So there's bound to be some urban warfare .even if it's lame. Posted by: Twiggets at April 7, 2003 01:23 PMAgain, the Iraqi fighers are doing what we want, reacting to what we do. Every time they use artillery, they reveal its position to our counterbattery radar and global hawks, and we take it out. So far, their urban fighters are getting slaughtered in a grotesquely one-sided exchange ratio that has only slightly worsened (for the Coalition) since entering Baghdad, as far as we can tell. They can't push us out of Baghdad, that is very clear. They are, essentially, playing for the cheap seats, hoping the global media can create a shift of world opinion leading to irresistible demands for a cease-fire and negotiated conclusion. Glad to see Reuters shouldering its load in the Iraqi regime's strategy. Posted by: T. Hartin at April 7, 2003 01:24 PMThey sent out the invitatations to a "street fighting " party, but only the coalition showed up. I would just as soon deal with any martyrs now as in a few days. Turn out the lights, the parties over... Posted by: Capsu78 at April 7, 2003 01:49 PMPost a comment
