Marines permitted to remove MOPP gear

FoxNews reporting breaking news that Marines of "a Marine division" (this is presumably a reference to I MEF) have been ordered to remove their chemical protective suits for the first time.

NOTE: Obviously, this is in response to the weather conditions, but it is also indicative of a high level of confidence that we have destroyed their potential delivery vehicles and/or are able to suppress any such equipment that may still exist.

There were reports a couple of days ago that they had been allowed to take off their tops because of the heat. They had been told not to worry about chemical weapons, since they were upwind of Baghdad. Also note that the suits "expire" 25-30 days after opening (though some have claimed 45 days). That puts their expiration at about the 25th, by my calculations.

Let's hope somebody, somewhere knows something.

Good points, but the calculation is a bit different now that we have Marines operating in Baghdad proper. There may be additional considerations involved, but I view this as a very positive development. The CG of I MEF, Major General Mattis, was my battalion commander, and I can tell you that there is not a more meticulous officer in the military. If he has made this call, I have to believe he is very confident that the chem/bio threat is minimal. Of course, I posted the info as it was reported, so I cannot vouch for its accuracy nor the issuer of the order.
