Robert Fisk: "Reports Of Airport Assault Premature"

From the New Zealand News:

So where are the Americans? I prowled the empty departure lounges, mooched through the abandoned customs department, chatted to the seven armed militia guards, met the airport director and stood beside the runways where two dust-covered Iraqi Airways passenger jets -- an old 727 and an even more elderly Antonov -- stood forlornly on the runway not far from an equally decrepit military helicopter ...

Have fun in the comments ...

mebbe he'll get pressed into service as a human shield

He just edits press releases from the Iraqi [dis]Information Ministry and submits them.

To be fair to the man, he's just a victim of Internet Time.

First come reports of Coalition forces "investing" the Airport.
Then he gets taken there by Iraqi minders, no Americans in sight.
Then he leaves, and reports truthfully what he's seen.
Some minutes later, the Americans Blitz through and storm the joint.
A bit after that, pictures appear on CNN, just about the time he's filing his story.

Turn on SKY news or FOX you git! The reporter AT THE AIRPORT asked the commander of the marine forces how much of the airport they controlled and he said 75%.....

Alan: Great minds think alike. Look at the times of the posts, too.

asshat!

don't let your kids be newspaper war correspondents... they'll look like idiots

internet or tv!

To be fair, reports that the airport was taken first showed up earlier today, around noon CST.

They don't seem to have taken it fully until about 12 hours later.

Though a soldier just said they took the land around it yesterday. So I would guess Mr. Fisk wasn't looking too hard for Americans.

It's amazing to me how this moron calls us liars, but not the crap spewed daily by the Iraqui defense minister and his goons. I guess he still believes that the pictures we are seeing are really a mirage

...Nightline 11:30 EST 4/3/03, with Ted Koppel reporting live from the tarmac of Robert Fisk International Airport...

Fisk is notoriously anti-American. But this story takes the biscuit for total inaccuracy and slant.

To "fisk" is now a verb, and this story defines its meaning. He has been a royal pain in the butt ever since he started his one-sided reporting in Northern Ireland.

Pointing out the timeline of the rumors, his story, and the actual attack doesn't excuse him.
It merely exposes how quick his knee-jerk reaction is (and in this case, how utterly wrong too)!

Why didn't he just stay there with a live camera/radio transmitter and see what happened?

I have yet to see any photos from him or anyone he's with. Do such things exist? Is he with a photographer?

Tell me that you didn't find the Iraqui Info.guy
funny.I've been watching this clown for the last 2 weeks and laughed harder every day.I thought I
almost saw him crack a smile after one of his
stupid rants. This guy is definitely hilarious and
I'm sure his routine will end up in a lot of comedy skits.
